Socially awkward in a work environment?

Is it more difficult to be socially awkward at work or not?

There are advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that you are in an office and normally most people are expected to act professionally. Most people aren't out to harm you or crude to you.

There is a disadvantage in that you can be fired for "strange behavior" and that strange behavior is never written on paper.

Sometimes I have that awkward stare and I wonder if the bosses, especially female bosses take offense at my sometimes nervous behavior.
