There are every day odors that I am very sensitive to specificly the smell of Pine-Sol (a cleaner) the smell of this stuff gives me headaches and makes me dizzy. Other stronger cleaners do not effect my this way.
The other really bad one is the smell of chocolate like in a candy shop I can not stay in the area I have to leave.

Who else has these kind of issuses?

I can recognise the way certain people smell, but I don't have any issues with odours as such.

I could go an quite a rant concerning this topic. I won't, though. I have a hypersensitive olfactory sense in general. I can tell when people have been to the house during the day while I'm at work.

I must maintain a spotless house, not because I'm a neat freak, but because I can smell the 'dirt' and where the 'dirt' has been and what/who had the 'dirt' last. People, especially 'dirty' ones are difficult to deal with. I sometimes associate people by their soap, which is much better than associating them by their seldom use of soap.

If I notice little old ladies coming my way in a group ( you know they can't smell how powerful they are, they don't really mean to hurt me ) I try to give them as much room as possible and hold my breath. Getting a full breath of heavy perfume is like sniffing bullets into my brain. Even if I'm only within a few feet of them I can smell their perfume on my clothes all day.

Living in town can be a nightmare at times. I often sniff mint to knock back my sensitivity. I grow several varieties. I carry some with me when I go to strange places. When I was younger I always carried a little cotton bag of something powerfully aromatic, pine needles, artemesia, sage, orange leaves, huisache, and other herbs or aromatic plants of any sort I could find, things I liked the smell of. I called it my medicine bag, which didn't put off too many people growing up in south Texas, but it's a little out of the ordinary, here.

If I become overwhelmed, I can knock back the scents enough to cope with after a good whiff of mint, if I need to. It's the most dependable thing I've found.

Smells don't bug me anymore than any other person. Of course a really strong smell would bug both Aspies and NTs alike. My weaknessed lay in hearing-sensitivity and sensitivity to bright/neon lights. Never really had a problem with smelling things anymore than other people. That's for the best, probably.

good ol smells...

I really hate cigeratte smoke. I cant stand walki g past someone smoking. I wont go to anyones house who smokes. If I get smoke on me I have to shower and wash my clothes. That stuff is just evil.

I also hate perfume, it gives me a headache. Anything scented like perfume is also not allowed near me.

I hate ammonia, bleach, and most other cleaners. They feel like they are sufficating me.

I would love to be able to turn my nose off sometimes...and my ears. :)

I am sensitive to odors that I recognize. If I don't recognize them, then I just let them slide.

I am very sensitive to smell.
When I go into peoples homes the first thing I notice is the smell.

Me too. I sometimes think that you could blindfold me and lead me into a house and I could tell whose it was by the smell. Not an unpleasant smell or anything, just an individual smell. A lot of stores have their own smell, too.

Smells I hate are perfumes, body sprays, ordinary aerosol deodorants, cleaning fluids... basically anything chemical like that around me and I feel sick and short of breath. I only use the natural, 'eco' type things on myself or for cleaning the house (my favorite's a lovely pure Olive Oil soap).

Is this a joke? If not, I can asure you that there are certain types of cyanide that everyone can smell. When I was a teen, I worked at my dad's shop where he did metal electroplating and other stuff. We used sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide for plating silver. Those are 2 hideous and recognizable smells that you will never forget. I hope you never get the chance to smell them.

Don't get me started. Among other things, I cannot tolerate cigarette smoke, most cleaning supplies, most perfumes and colognes, and I absolutely cannot stand the scent of certain foods. I can tell whether one of my best friends has been hanging around in her garage before coming to school (it has a particularly annoying scent) and I can tell my two dogs from eachother by scent alone, as well as my various family members and friends. The first thing I do when entering a new area is to try to catch any new scents. I can tell my classrooms from last year apart from the scents as well.

I also seem to be able to 'taste' scents on the air right behind my front teeth. Can anyone else do this? I have read that animals can do something similar called flehmen but am not sure how rare it is among people.

I forgot about cigarette smoke - probably because I've fortunately not smelled it for so very long. I cannot stand the stuff.

Yes, scents are my BIGGEST problem of all. My worst sensitivity by far.

All of the above I agree with. Perfumes KILL me. In fact I actually had to leave my college after I had completed three and a half years because I developed a really strong sensitivity to perfume, and suddenly everywhere I went in the college, I had to run the other way, quite literally, because the smell of people's perfumes made me feel like I was going to faint. I couldnt even start to get any work done. It was so bad! I have trouble with all cleaners, too. There is a grocery store here that uses a really particularly nasty cleaner and it smells like ALL the time evry time you go into it. It is really annoying and I hate so much going in there, my dad was understanding of this for a while but has recently made me start going back in there. Yuck! Really bad scents make my eyes sting,g make me feel like i will faint, make my throat burn, dizzy, the whole nine yards! I hate bad smells so freaking much. The first thing I notice about a new place is the smell, too. A few weeks ago i was going to have dinner wiht a friend but becasuse of her very strong perfume was not able to, pisses me off really that I have to have so many problems with this.

Justin, lol, I read your post without seeing it was you, and thought after reading it "thats exactly how i feel, wow, that person really got into my head.. reminds me of justin too" and then of course, DUH, it was you!
i will see you soon!

I want a smell free world. I hate cig smoke too. I do LOVE the smell of chocolate though:)

No, it isn't a joke.

I'm talking about the cyanide that people say is odourless and very few people can recognise a smell from it.

I think cyanide smells like bitter nuts it was on tv. I put my shirt over my nose when people smoke.
