Thanks for making me cry.

I didn't speak or become potty-trained until well-after NT children are supposed to. I shudder to think what would have become of me had I been born to parents like these, instead of my mother, who read to me every single day and watched Sesame Street with me.

Ugh. ~calls mother to tell her I love her~

Well, obviously, autistic children are animals and must be penned up for their own good. And if the house burns down with them trapped in their cage/room, then that's just bad luck, isn't it?

And her excuse: "They're autistic." As though that explained everything.

They can't use the bathroom and can't talk--but how in the world are they supposed to learn anything if she keeps them caged up? I don't know what they would be capable of learning in a good environment; but it's certainly more than they have learned.

this is sad. it seem to me they neglected all of their children. Even though their older children are gonna remember this, I'm just happy chances are the baby will not remember these horrible times. What idiot would put a baby on a dirty floor, that could of made the child very sick.

Take them out back and blow their brains out (the parents).

The news article title made it seem as if only the two autistic children were locked up in cage like rooms.

Quote:
Higdon was asked to escort police down the hall. She set the baby down on a filthy floor.

A door down the hallway had a hole in it which was slightly bigger than a basketball.

Inside the room was 9-year-old boy on the bed. Higdon said that child was enrolled in a school for children with ADD. The boy told police that he was supposed to be home-schooled but Higdon provided none.

The child described being kept in a caged room

Whoever fosters those kids is going to have a hard job. Neglected NT kids have it hard enough; neglected autistic kids not only have those issues, but the problem of suddenly being thrust into a new environment, likely with much more stimulation than they are used to. While it's a positive change, it'll still be a change, and I would expect them to pretty much go nuts for a while until they adjusted. I hope they find a foster family that's raised autistic kids before; they'd be the ones to know best how to help a kid who's autistic and suddenly been thrown into a new situation. It's not pretty either way but at least in that case they'd understand that the kid is just getting utterly overwhelmed by new stuff and cut him some slack.

Too quick. To quote Pulp Fiction, someone should "go to work on 'em with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch."

I think a little poetic justice is in order: Let's lock those parents up in the same cage for a while and see how they like it.

That happened right north if me where I used to live. Dirty and filthy apartment and the parents seemed clueless. It's not uncommon for autistic kids to wear diapers and caged room? What's the difference between parents locking their autistic kids in their room and parents replacing the door with bars?
