Have there been cases when other people misdiagnose or think someone has aspergers when it could be something else?

of course, that's a given, sometimes persons with aspergers might be missdiagnosed with OCD, OCPD, of a schiziod disorder, and visa versa.

Yeah I hear about misdiagnosis and self diagnosis a lot. I don't know why people get misdiagnosed but most personality disorders are so similar with Aspergers. Also Klinefelter's Syndrome needs more awareness. I diagnosed my bf with Klinefelters (KS) (xxy) a more common chromosome disorder where a boy has an extra x. The similarities mentall/emotiinally are that with Aspergers. But I believe my bf has both KS and Aspergers because boys with KS supposedly grow out of it buti don't think he will it's hard to say. At this point he has both I think. But if you're a guy and you don't hit puberty right, you have tiny testicles and you're tall, lack muscle tone+nody strength, have oft skin, gynocomastia etc. You prob have KS.

Yes, but girls it's far more likely they are misdiagnosed with something else and actually have AS I think.

Among things that can be misdiagnosed as AS, and thus modern evaluations attempt to rule them out are schizophrenia spectrum disorders such as schizoid personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and juvenile schizophrenia.

Shyness or social anxiety, especially if it's coupled with something like OCD, can also be misdiagnosed as AS but this would really be sloppy work on the part of the clinician.

I also believe that those with ADHD/ODD are likely to be misdiagnosed with AS because a lot of clinicians now seem to associate generally difficult children who have outbursts at school as having AS...Hans Asperger never described such behavior.

It seems the children that Hans Asperger described were rather logical and mature in demeanor as far as I recall.

People seem to think bad behaviour and behaving a bit different means you have AS.

What "people," whoever they may be, think is not at issue here. You asked if someone could be misdiagnosed, and that's assuming a professional diagnosis. What random people may think is irrelevant.
