It is a matter of a lot of people growing up now having no conception of why somebody would not be identified when they were young or how that it can be extremely difficult to get a professional diagnosis as a middle-aged person. I think compared to a few years ago younger WP members are more educated about this due to us and others talking about it.
It can work the other way also. For those of us who grew up when Autism diagnosis was rare and now see autism not only much more widely diagnosed but a lot of Autistic characters on TV in the movies etc., it is tempting to think Autism is overdiagnosed and that today's kids are snowflakes who do not appreciate how supposedly easy they have it.

“My autism is not a superpower. It also isn’t some kind of god-forsaken, endless fountain of suffering inflicted on my family. It’s just part of who I am as a person”. - Sara Luterman
