What was it like? If you've tried a stimulant for AD(H)D, were there any similarities?

I ordered a bottle of ephedrine from Canada some time ago in an attempt to reduce my appetite. It worked, but I also noticed some unexpected "side effects". I was no longer feeling like I was focusing on what's right in front of me, or drifting. You could say it broadened my horizon. I started noticing people. Before, I've seen them as part of the decor. I had no idea it was like that. I was alert during the day and tired in the evening, which I've never been before.

I would definitely have ordered more, but the shipping costs with larger quantities were too high. It's also risky to illegally import drugs.

The neuropsychologist clearly said that poor attention played a part in making some tasks more difficult, but the "basic" attention was fine (don't know what that means), and that attention wasn't the main problem. I'm worried that I won't even be able to try a stimulant.

It is one of the most awful things I have ever ingested. I don't like it. Not at all. It made me feel so weird and lethargic.

I self-medicated with ephedra for years to help me focus and get things done.

That said I would not suggest using it. Prescription stimulants are much safer and probably more effective.

Thanks for the comments!
I've been told you can buy ephedrine from the "big boys" at the gym. If I had enough courage do that, I would be tempted, but it's not going to happen

Ritalin had a similar effect on me. I lost my detail-focus and went through the next few hours in a daze, unable to move from the couch much of the time. Not recommended at all.

However, a low-dose extended-release Concerta has been quite helpful, actually increasing my ability to transition from one activity to another. I do have a diagnosis of ADHD in addition to autism, though.
