DO you screw up a lot? Do you make others mad at you?

I'm 17 with ASD and all that I could remember I have made my teachers mad at me because I have screwed up or that I did not follow along on the directions. I often would do the job and some other student would come and look at my work and say "Dude this is not how you would do the project" and I would get really offended and mad at the other people because I though that I was doing well on it and someone tells me I completely got it wrong.
I get people mad and frustrated at me many times and they have to repeat the steps over and over. I have a slow mind apparently because when someone tells me the directions to something I would look at it and do the project a completely different way than everyone else. I don't know how many Face palms I have gotten for acting stupid or reacting terribly to the assignment but I have been annoying to people lately and I want to know is it because of ASD?

I have a tendency to mess things up and annoy people, too. I theorize that it's partly my AS and partly my ADD. Due to AS, I have to concentrate on what I need to do in any given situation or else I will miss social cues or incorrectly interpret something. But then my ADD kicks in and my attention span disappears, which inevitably leads to some mistake, people getting annoyed, and so forth. I feel that if I didn't have one or the other, I could make it fine, but that's not the case.

On the other side, though, I am by no means slow-minded, and I suspect it's the same for you. All you need is more practice in interpreting the directions of people who speak a different language than you.

I'm also slow at interpreting directions, and I'm absolutely awful at multi-tasking, but I'm otherwise intelligent and project an appearance of a strong, extroverted personality, so people rarely become annoyed with me. The only time I end up annoying or offending people is when my AS kicks in and I miss all the social cues that should be telling me that it's not appropriate to make a particular joke or statement or talk so loudly or... all of the other things that Aspies tend to have issues with.

Actually, I did once read that some people with AS are actually very good at thinking 'outside of the box' and solving problems in inventive ways that a Neurologically Normative individual wouldn't be able to come up with. Could this possibly be some of what you've been experiencing?

I tend to cause people to dislike me, it seems. I'm not entirely sure if it's a matter of introversion as I'm not "meek" or anything like that, but it's possible, I s'pose. In theory, it's because "I'm annoying", but I have no idea why other than speculations of verbal memory deficits and a more 'reserved' conversational approach.

I also have a tendency to mess things up and annoy people, like said before. I have a touch of ADD besides my AS, I suppose. Furthermore, my verbal memory is not very good, similarly to swbluto's.

At school I got some face palms too bc of naughty behavior. Sometimes it happened outside of the school. I had been yelled at not doing what I was told. I wanted to do the assignment but could not accomplish it bc I didn't understand what actually I was supposed to do.

Practicing helps, I can confirm that, but I still need patience from other people.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes indeed!

I am always screwing up on assignments and related work, and getting drenched in sweat from embarrassing myself. I often think my life would make a great sitcom from all these screw-ups.
