I as other Aspies do it without thinking and it's just something I do that's normal for me and I do at times out of boredom and such. Chewing my knuckle dad said it looked weird. Bouncing a little rubber ball (Don't bounce your ball out here take that to your room.) :-( If I rocked as many on the spectrum do (I don't) then THAT would be "not normal" to him as well. :-( I have knawed on my knuckle to the point of it itching like a mosquito bite now adays. Anything to NOT do this stim? Everything "not normal" is yelled at or criticized! :-(

I used to bite holes in my shirt without thinking. You can try putting something bitter on your knuckles... :D

Also, I stopped biting my shirts because my mom said I'll have to pay for every shirt I destroy.

I would tell him to get over it (you may not actually want to do this). You aren't "normal," so you're going to do not normal things. Stimming is a part of our normal. My more practical suggestion would be to save it for when you can be alone so you won't get yelled at.

Try to do stims that are a bit less annoying. You can play with a bit of something in your hands, say pen, keys, some charms. You can also try to hum some songs. There are stims that are more socially acceptable. :)

Okay, what about the zen turnaround. You loosely schedule maybe ten minutes to gnaw on your knuckle sometime during the first part of the day, and you do so with zen mindfulness but of course not to the point of injury. And you might not even do it for the full ten minutes because that's too long and it's boring. But by giving yourself permission to do it, you then don't "need" to do it so much.

And yes, I also support lightly experimenting with other less obvious or more 'socially acceptable' stims. (I like to hold and twist a soft T-shirt as I imagine sports. But I also have objects that are basically worry stones or a hand exerciser for public.)
