There is all this talk within the scientific community about Autism being geneticly linked. What geneticists are looking for are genes specifically responsible for the Autism/Asperger's itself and not taking a more broad approach, such as measuring the prevelance of Autism/Asperger's among SPECIFIC ethnicities and nationalities. For example; when statistical reports give the rate of Autism among Hispanic children is X percent, it is in my opinion, a very vauge and misleading statement. There are many different ethnic groups in Latin America and to lump them all into one catagory is foolish! For instance, epidemiologists should take into account which regions of the world an Autistic individual's family originated from. So the next time they measure the rate of Autism among the hispanic population, they will then ask the question which part of Latin America did your family come from? Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, Chile, Guatemala? I believe that by carefully examing and scrutinizing national and ethnic backgrounds of people on the spectrum, we will discover commonalities that could possibly further our understanding of the origins of Autism.

To get started here's my ethnic profile:
25% Swedish
25% English
25% Lithuanian
12.5% Spanish (Possibly Argentinian or Chilean)
12.5% Scot-Irish

100 percent Asian-Indian

75% German
25% Native American (Arapaho)

My mom is almost completely English if I'm not mistaken and my dad is black Irish (some people accuse him of being a terrorist ). I have some cousins living in Germany and all over the United States.

I POSSIBLY have some Amer-Indian blood, but it's considerably less than 25%, from my grandmother's descriptions of my grandfather, he was "Spanish" looking as opposed to someone darker complected from Southern Mexico. My guess is that he was of Spanish background or a pale complected Castizo of Northern Mexican, Argentinian, or Chilean descent.

I'm something like 50% Irish and the rest of me is made up of Welsh, Dutch, and some other ancestries.

I'm about 80% Scottish and 20% English, German, Welsh, NA (don't know the tribe), I think there's some Swedish in there somewhere. Maybe it was Dutch?

Wow, I'm getting alot of people of Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, and Scandinavian background!

It's likely that that is where the autism gene originates. I mean, I'm just positing here, but I doubt there are many pureblood africans with autism...

Please don't make me figure out the percentages, I have no idea. But I am Norwegian, German, Scottish, Irish, English, French, and unidentified Native American. I love my Norwegian heritage the most.

Well let's not jump to conclusions! Nigeria alone has 250 ethnic groups!! !! Africa has thousands of different ethnicities and I'm sure there are at least a few which are prone to Autism.

I do not believe there is a "the autism gene." I think empirical data supports multiple possible genetic causes at this point.

I saw a documentary in which Bill Nye had broken down the human genome into ethnic profiles. Basically, everyone had a bit of nearly every group. The most isolated groups would probably be Pacific Islanders.
