Happens to me all the time. I can be staring right at something, and not see it, even though I'm telling myself, aloud, "It must be here! It must be staring me in the face! I must just not be seeing it!" I can spend an hour hunting high and low for a book, for example, only to find it staring right at me from the place I first looked for it, which is also the most likely place, and one I've returned to several times, convinced that it must be there, after I've failed repeatedly to find it in half a dozen less likely places. I'm almost getting used to this happening.

Never heard this referred to as an autistic trait, though, and it seems sort of unlikely.

My age (59) may have something to do with it. :(

Almost certainly not Aspie, but certainly something like it

I do that all the time. I'm a bit ADHD though so it could be a concentration thing... The best one is the colander though, I can NEVER find those things when I put them down! Then I start effin and blinding that I can't find the ^*$(%)^ colander then someone says 'it's right there in front of you!'

This happens to me frequently. Sometimes, it's so bad that I am looking for something that is right in my hand...

This happens to me all the time as well. I remember getting upset because I could find my phone, which was in my hand :/

I tend to blame it on random black holes that pop into existence and steal my stuff when I really need it :)

It's something you have to train yourself to be careful about if you are doing quality assurance. There's a specific scientific term for it but I don't remember the name.

I do this all the time. Most of the time it happens when I'm looking for food in the fridge, sometimes it happens with tools. If someone is nearby I'll ask if they see it fully aware it's probably infront of my face. It usually is.

I do this all the time and my husband does it too. It happens to everybody.

Mom used to tell my brothers and I as a kid ,"If it had teeth, it would bite."

I don't have this, I usually know where everything I put it is. Not to say there have been rare occasions where I forgot where I put something, usually papers from school). But then again these days I keep everything on the same spots. Keys on table, phone next to my pc, etc.
