Who here was actually diagnosed with it?

Just curious.

Hard to find a lot of definitive info on it(not really a shocker).

How similar are you to the Aspies here?

Just curious.

Ehh, that'd be my diagnosis. At least, the correct one. I've had classic autism and Asperger's diagnoses too.

As far as similarities go, it's all one spectrum--I don't really see much difference between PDD-NOS, AS, and regular autism here on WP. There are striking differences between individuals, but they don't really seem to be predictable by the specific diagnosis.

I'm diagnosed with PDD NOS.

In my case it's because I don't have enough traits for AS, but I have enough traits to need accomodations for it. After a bunch of reading I've self-diagnosed with Newson Syndrome (also called Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome).

Here's a good explanation of what PDD NOS means.

I was diagnosed with AS at 7, and it was changed to PDD-NOS at 9 for some reason by the same psychiatrist. I think I would have fit the AS label until the age of 18, though. As for now, a label doesn't matter to me anymore though, all I know was that I was a kid who had a very huge imagination and other people just got in the way of it. :P

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

If i tried to get a diagnosis of PDDNOS I would probably be able to, if only because some of my other supposedly autistic symptoms could just as easilly be explained by my comorbids.

I'm in my mid-30's and was diagnosed about 18 months go. The signs were all there growing up, and I'm wondering why no one thought to tell me to get tested years ago. But, nevertheless, I'm learning more about PDD-NOS. I have a little cousin who also has it, his mom and I are first cousins but she and I aren't particularly close although I thought she'd be able to relate to me based on it. Ahh well.

Right now I'm struggling to see where I fit, as I have most of my life.

PDD-NOS is just atypical autism. Congratulations, you're part of one of the majority of autistic people--those who can't be easily fit into a specific box.

I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS when I was only 5 years old.

I am somewhat similar to the Aspies on WP (i.e. social difficulties). However, I don't get stuck on one subject when talking to people and I feel that I have a more outgoing personality than a lot of people on WP.

This is almost exactly how I feel about myself.

LOL I just wanted to see if anyone else felt similarly.

Of course, everyone with PDD-NOS is different.

I feel that I have Aspergers due to my childhood, my symptoms and communicating with other aspies. I wasn't tested when I was young as Aspergers wasn't a diagnosis back then (I am 45). However, my recent test concluded that I have PDD-NOS. :?

Hmm, not many replies. Seems to support my idea that AS is stereotypically perceived as "the HFA" and relatively more frequently given than PDD-NOS, based on the stereotype, rather than the strict diagnostic criteria.

I hope this vague and ugly diagnostic label (PDD-NOS, the one they've given to me) will disappear once and for all and blend in smoothly with the new ASD diagnosis, though I see some problem for those who exhibit too few symptoms or not strong enough symptoms regarding RSB, they will be excluded from the autism spectrum and classified under a new diagnostic category, Social Communication Disorder after the changes. Sounds unsettling. I don't know what will happen with individual diagnoses, though.

(Note, I'm still for maintaining subcategories / subgroups within (the proposed) Autism Spectrum Disorder. There may as well be HFA, Asperger's, Classic, whatever subtypes as other newly formed subgroups, IMO.)

I'm starting to wonder if I have PDD-NOS. I was originally diagnosed with Dyspraxia high-functioning AS. But now I have an anxiety disorder and social phobia, and these 2 things are definately co-morbid to my AS (I have discussed it with my psychiatrist), and I was wondering if I didn't have these 2 things, my AS would be a lot less of an interference with my life. I just know it will, and even my psychiatrist said.

But I don't know. It just feels that way to me.

PDD-NOS is not about severity. It can range from mild to severe across the spectrum. It has different characteristics that tell it apart form other PDDs, at least theoretically (see http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news ... 18410.html , diagnostic inconsistencies, snatched form the recent Aspergers and HFA thread, thanks to Verdandi).

You may have it if you have "subthreshold" symptoms of autism yet your symptoms are clinically significant.
