Seriously, that nickname makes it sound like we're all from Colorado.

How about a new nickname?

I wouldn't mind being called the sexiest person alive, but I think that title is taken.

I can't think of anything better, what does it have to do with Colorado?

I do know one thing for sure, it's sort of an internationally understood slang for Asperger's - well as least in Australia, NZ, UK and US to my understanding.

I use the word even though I don't think its that great. Anything to avoid the word "syndrome" all together. When that word comes out, people automaticaly think "downs syndrome".

Aspen is a popular ski resort town in Colorado, but "aspies" does not make me think of it.

And the other problem with "syndrome" is that for some people it is more of a personality than a disorder. Especially if they have learnt to deal with their problems, then they still have the personality but not so much the syndrome/disorder.

I can think of two good things about the word Aspie. I bet somebody else has thought of this already, but one day somebody could make a film called "Planet of the Aspies". The plot: some astronauts get warped hundreds of years into the future and find the NT's have wiped themselves out. The reason being nothing to do with their hatred of those not in their group, or their inability to tell the truth on how bad things really are. But due to the simple fact that the microwave radiation emitted by their 'so-called' communication devices (mobile phones etc) caused high rates of brain cancer and low fertility rates. So the Aspies inherited the earth. The first thing they did was get all of the worlds scientists working on finding the 'bullying gene' so this could be detected before birth and the offending embryo....err... 'dealt with'. I'd better stop there 8O

And the other thing is that the word "Aspie" makes me think of a pun of the George Orwell novel - "Keep the Aspie-destra flying". I want that on a T-Shirt!! !

The nickname, Aspie brings to my mind, somebody who has mamoth aspriations for their Future. That what it sounds like, to me. The only aspriation that I have for my Future is to be able to ride the Heritage Routemasters through Central London. That's small potatoes, compared to having aspararions to have a large buisness and become a Multi-Billionaire. I prefer people to say, People with Aspergers, and to leave the word, Syndrome out. Many people associate the word, Syndrome with Mental Retardation.

I know someone with it that calls us assburners. Aspie makes me think of asp, the snake that supposedly bit Cleopatra. It could be worse, we could have been named after a Dr. Butts or something.

Anything is better than being called psycho, geek, or freak. Spaz is another bad one and so is Kibbles n Bits(personal nickname for barking like a dog). I mostly use it because 'person with aspergers' takes too long to say.

All my ideas are kind of dumb :P
 Aspergian. but that sounds like we are from our own little country. Aspergia.
 NA, Neuroatypical. But i don't like that one too much

I like the idea of Aspergians from Aspergia. Too bad in fact we all don't have our own country, it could be a cool place.

Well, in my town if you said, "I'm NA", people would just assume you were a reformed drug addict.

I don't really like "aspie" either, there's something about the feel/taste of the word that trivializes the condition. "I'm A" is already taken. I like "Aspergerian" but it's sort of hard to say. "I'm Asparagus" just sounds silly.

We should be able to come up with something better; personally I'll be working on it.

Well, maybe the Jews can give us some ideas. They didn't have a country of their own for nearly 2000 years. They were persecuted wherever they went (like us aspies). When they founded Israel in 1948, although they became locked in a constant conflict, they at least had a homeland. Obviously, we'll have to be careful where we make our homeland, so we won't have to constantly fight with PaleNTine.
