I'm wondering whether or not I have Asperger's and am seeking a diagnosis. I just called a local university who said that they would do it for $5,500 but they do not take insurance payments, and I don't have that kind of money right now. I'm thinking about calling a psychiatrist, which would be covered by insurance, but my experience with psychiatrists is that they just wanted to hand out prescriptions and send me on my way. Since there are no medications for Asperger's, this might be useless. Any help from those who have had a diagnosis? Thank you. :)

$5,500 for a diagnosis? Wow... I paid $80 for mine. Go to either a psychiatrist or a psychologist. Psychiatrists are more likely to want to throw meds at you psychologists are more likely to want to give you therapy. In my opinion therapy is better since you can work through some social issues. I don't know the specific qualification for psychologists to be able to give diagnoses but some can.

The university probably wanted to give you every test possible and then some.

I'm not quite sure how to answer this, but I just remeber that my parents were always a bit concern about me,they wonder why I couldn't feel pain from going and up down slides and swings,I got stung by alot of bees and yes I still have scars from a dog bite. They wonder why I didn't really show much emotion and why didn't I start to talk til 3.Later they sent me to a therapy diagnosis cneter and found out that I have a spectrum form of autism.I wasn't actually diagnosis as an aspie on the autism label until I was 8.Yes I do take concerta and yes I do understand my problems,I didn't undertand that why I was so different from everybody else, being out of control, being shy and yet still a genius and why was in special Ed classes, til I was told one time by my family in Middle school, that I had a disability and what it was. At least I learned how to deal with many of my problems, otherwise I would've never gotten so far in my life.Being in sports, different school trips and hanging out with my friends on special occassions. :D Thank goodness I'm more sociable now, though I still tend to live a private life.
