What?

I hated dinosaurs as a kid. The bloody brontosaurus never existed.

Now, explosives and incendiaries...now those were fun when I was 7. Seriously, the day I discovered that hairspray + flame = flamethrower was easily one of the most glorious days of my childhood. I've, honestly, no idea how I managed to retain all my fingers.

Because dinosaurs are totally sweet. I still love them even though I'm 21 now.

My Aspie husband never cared about dinosaurs. Neither my Aspie daughter.

I never liked them either. We had to make this dinosaur book in Grade 2 and write out the names of different dinosaurs and it gave me (and a lot of other people) headaches.

However, the computers at my school are really slow and old, so we call them "dinosaurs", but that's only because they are relaly old, not because I like dinosaurs.

I had a couple dinosaur toys as a kid, but I was into animals in general. Plenty of NTs are into dinosaurs as kids, too.

Not only that, but the default cursor for one of my old computers turns to a dinosaur when it's loading.

Personally, I was never really into dinosaurs or any other animal. But Jurassic Park was a good movie.

According to my mom, dinosaurs were my earliest special interest. I remember having loads of books about them and a lot of plastic dinosaur toys, and I also enjoyed TV shows and movies about them like The Land Before Time, the 90s sitcom with dinosaur puppets simply called Dinosaurs, and to a lesser extent Jurassic Park. My favorite dinosaurs were the Tyrannosaurus rex and the velociraptor.

Heh.

In Kindergarten I freaked out my teacher by writing "Tyrannosaurus Rex" on something.

My mother wrote something up for my therapist to explain my history, and she described my special interests as a child. My therapist dismissed them as "not really related to autism" because the topics included dinosaurs and Star Wars.

I tried to explain the difference between really loving something and eating, breathing, drinking, thinking, living something for every waking minute, relating everything back to it, talking about it, collecting everything that is remotely related to the topic.

Then she said "Well, ADHD can be like that too."

I had dinosaurs as my special interest because I liked Jurassic Park. One of my favorite movies as a kid and obsessions.

California!

I never cared much about dinosaurs, for me, it was cars. I could determine any car by brand and type, even if it passed at high speed (an ability that I strangely did not retain), at ages around 3 to 5.

I was absolutely fascinated by dinosaurs and still am, but that I don't think it's something peculiar to aspies. Many children think they are awesome.
