Why do I always cause people to facepalm?

I am 17 male with ASD And I am sure if this is a part of it but for some reasons I am always saying or doing something other people cant handle me doing and I don't know why. When I do a hands on kind of project and show my peers how I did they will take one look at it and their jaws will drop and smack their hand on their forhead and I get really embarrassed by this. They will say "oh my God what did you o to the project that is not how you do that!" And I would get really upset and give up doing the project and lose hope. I always get this reaction each time someone sees my work. People think I'm stupid or something because I always seem to get it wrong. I am a cause of frustration among people. I also say random and stupid things to people and they look at me and do the facepalm reaction again. Is this just my problem because I get this a lot like once a week.

Sorry to hear that. Usually people don't even bother with a facepalm for me.

People don't even facepalm or imply a facepalm with me, they just ignore me, they think I'm useless. :(

I guess that's what spawned my de-measured ego and pride to sort of compensate.

Yeah, I get that too. I also get (jokingly) called "ret*d" by people who know my problems a bit better. I learned long ago how to project a sense of confidence, and that seems to help so things don't get me down as easily.

You've just left me admiring Tommy Lee Jones all over again.

But when people spaz and overreact like that, what I'm really hearing is a lot of people who see only one way to do things, or who at least need to learn some manners. I get pretty sick of being treated like I have a problem when other people can't handle the fact of being around people who aren't just like they are. Seems to me the NT status quo needs a nice little tazer blast to their comfortable "it's just not done that way, everybody does this" mentality. Yeah, there are better and worse ways to do things, but if they want it exactly one certain way, they should say so.

I can't recall any actual facepalms, but certainly plenty of implied facepalms like that of Mr. Jones. I'm quite familiar with people talking to me in that tone of voice that says, "Jesus, what don't you get?"

I often say things that are outrageous, or way over the top or way over the line. Like there is this social etiquette line that you shouldn't cross, and I can't see it so I go all over it in ways people would never imagined it could be gone over.

Basically though I decided that I would stick by what I say, not be ashamed of what I say and if I do make those faux pas well I don't mean anything by them, if other people can't handle it then I probably wont like being around them anyway :P

I don't know why you make them do a facepalm but I tend to do one in my head because I think the other person is:

A) An idiot
B) I am shocked and wonder if they are that oblivious or just an idiot or a troll
C) They still don't get it even though it's all simple and obvious
D) I am talking to a brick wall because they still don't get it and they can't seem to process what I am saying correctly no matter how many times I keep trying to explain something

Pretty much all of the above when I do a facepalm. But I don't think I have ever actually done one because I never knew such gesture existed so I never thought of doing it.

It sounds like they are really immature. I wouldn't worry too much about it (although I know its easy to say that at my age, I am aware it is different when you're young). Just keep doing what you're doing. As long as you think you are doing the right thing and are getting good grades, then ignore your peers. They're not worth worrying about.

As for face palming myself, I only do it when I have done something stupid!
