I am only curious because I know we all have things with AS that make us meltdown if we aren't well-prepared or other times have trouble understanding. That's why I was asking this...

For me, I've always dealt with it. As some of you know, I have slight developmental delays, some of which cause me to think in the mind of a ten year old... I am smart but sometimes, my mind still functions like a ten year old level. I also have Asperger Syndrome, ADHD and severe anxiety...

A lot of people will yell at me at times out in public or look at me funny. There are times when my mom has to explain to them that I have a disability and there are times when that person looks at me and doesn't see anything wrong. I've been denied mostly for my age because I act like a younger child but because I look like an older adult, people will discriminate me because of age... without seeing that I am actually disabled.

That's why I was wondering how you guys handle this or if you guys ever deal with this sort of thing. It makes me feel really distressed and frustrated. I mean there are times when I want to do somehting meant mostly for a child... like playing a bounce house or the play areas at McDonald's... for me these things are still fun. But there are times when I get told that I can't do these things. That's when I have meltdowns. It's like my mind will shut down because of all the excessive stimulation around me that I am dealing with. Things like these often keep me calm and I do that because it helps me cope with my disabilities.

So yeah, how about you? Have you ever dealt with this kind of thing? I mean in general where NTs have denied you because of discrimination of your age and disability?

It depends on the type of discrimination. I am determining how to handle housing discrimination now. The only place I could find to make candles due to federal restrictions is a place that is run down, has rats, floods and has no electrical in the garage. Making candles is my job and others make them as well. So my congressman's office is helping with federal restrictions so I can get the place I need to also work and live.

Other discrimination is when people say for developmental disability inclusion in housing that "they don't want those kinds of people living in their rentals" and essentially declining anyone that is on Section 8 and disabled.
