What are Subtle social cues? I know that I miss them a lot having Aspergers so my definition of them is things like the pitch and tone of peoples voices and sarcasm which I don't get. Also the facial expressions that people use. I am hopeless at reading people and their facial expressions so the Subtle social cues just pass me by I am sure. I am confused and would like to know what other members see as these cues and if they pick them up easily :-)

I think it can also mean when people drop hints. These things just pass me by too.

I pick more of the subtle cues up then I understand at the moment.

Sometimes it seems like magic, how much I see through people (and sadly is percieved as so by other, which doesn't help in social contact :().

Examples of subtle social cues are:
-Microexpressions ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microexpression )
-Intonation ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intonation ... uistics%29 )
-Diction ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diction )
-Eye movement ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Representa ... _%28NLP%29 )
-Facial expression ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facial_expression )
-Muscle tone ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_tone )
-'Tells' ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tell_%28poker%29 )
-Body language ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_language )
-Breathing rhythm ( http://ep.physoc.org/content/93/9/1011.abstract )
-Blushing/Flushing/Pallor ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blushing / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flushing_%28physiology%29 / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pallor )
-Lips position ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lip#Facial_expressions )
-Speed of pronunciation ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pronunciation )
-Head tilting (see body language)

I found this video while searching for the links, it concerns expressions:

If I think of some more, i'll type that later. Enjoy!

 Some of those expressions look funny! Are they accurate? I could tell that the expressions were changing, but I couldn't name any of them (I tried watching with the words covered up).

It's a computer model, so it's misses some subtleties as I described in the list. Mainly muscle tones, wrinkling, complexions and liveliness

It gets the mouth shape and eye widening pretty well, though.

Pretty expansive list posted above. Easy definition: Reactions that are not overtly clear.

I have trouble with subtle non-verbal cues but I have found that paying close attention to obvious ones makes me sometimes a better "person reader" than a NT! I think it just comes naturally to NT's so they tend to ignore it or get distracted. Someone who is greatly better at reading humans and is distracted is much less likely to pick up on signals than someone with poor social cue reading who is paying attention.

I have repeated examples of the above happening in the hospital. I am sometimes given compliments for my "good person reading skills" yet it was from obvious clues such as crying, screaming, acting like they are going to punch me, etc. that the NT's are too distracted to notice.
