I have been writing alot of depressing poetry...because I am, well, depressed, but I want to write a poem about the gifts of autism
please describe:

your gift...or special interest that has enabled you to excell at something
how it feels when you use your gift
what that gift does for your self concept
how has this gift impacted others or others concept of you
anything else you want to add

I will go first
my gift is creativity in general and poetry
When I use my gift, I feel more alive and electricly charged
It makes me feel that I am more than a disorder, but an artist
People are often very suprised when they read my poetry or see my artwork as if they didn't think this shy person had so much inside.

I will post the poem when I get done.

thanks!! !

Jojo

I don;t know about other's but I find I understand my "self" not just metaphorically or existentially but in a way that tells me truthfully what I really am. I think NTs (and perhaps a few Aspies) are too egocentric to "know thyself by thyself".

A very non-linear out of the box form of thinking and problem solving.

Well, might as well...

My gift is my musical talent (with the flute and the recorder)
It makes me feel relaxed, but when I play in front of people, it's like I'm putting myself out for scrutiny, or letting down my mental guard, or something...
I know it's my special talent that few can match
I am tactless, shy and awkward on the outside, which makes people think I'm stupid. I fail at school and struggle. But I surprise people when I play my instruments- they finally appreciate something about me, and see past my hindrances.

glad to be of service

Well my interest is basically anything with the ocean... particularly surfing
when im in the water i feel a natural energy that only grows... when im on a wave everything and anything that is on my mind dissapears and just feel the motion of the water and go with its energy...
what it does for me is i guess it give me a sense of belonging...
my impact? well i had a girl come up to me in a carpark the other day... she said he was learning to surf while she was on holidays and she told me she had watched my surfing while she was on the beach and that she was so inspired at what i was doing... so i guess its pretty cool to know your inspiring people with what you are so passionate about... also it was nice to have a scenario when the girl would approach me and genuinely be interesting it my ocean talk

If not sequential then Parallel processing?

My special interest is child development / attachment and that has enabled me to get a degree in Human Development and Family Studies and do some research on parent-child attachment.
It feels good to use that gift because I can work with kids in a classroom setting and get to know kids individually.
This gift has helped my self-concept knowing that God is using me to influence the next generation in a good way.
Well, I have nannied some kids that had really bad behavior problems and I've helped them improve their behaviors and they have another mentor in their lives.

I recently discovered that I want to be an occupational therapist :D

Hope this helps :)
