I was once on it for a couple weeks and went completely ballistic the whole time. My anxiety went through the roof and I was constantly worried about things that weren't the slightest bit rational. Not for me at all.

I was medicated for anxiety and depression for a long, long time before being diagnosed with AS. None of the antidepressants -- including Wellbutrin -- did much, as I wasn't truly depressed in the need-medication sense (I don't think). When I decided to stop taking it, I cut my dosage in half for a week or two, and then stopped taking it altogether. If anything, I feel less depressed than when I was on it. But really, it was a total non-event for me, even though I'm normally very sensitive to medications of all kinds. Just didn't seem to do anything one way or the other. Could it be because I didn't need it in the first place? Dunno.

The jury is still out on it for me. My doctor is very skeptical of new drugs, and she'll wait years before putting any of her patients on certain meds.

All I remember is it didn't go well for me. Just my experience.

I haven't taken Welbutrin but have had bad experiences with anti-depressants (before I knew I had AS). Cymbalta was an absolute nightmare for me.

One single dose and it gave me heart attack like symptoms. There was nothing I could do except wait for it cycle through my system.

It triggered a psychotic episode but those are a part of my mental make-up. I very well may have been fine if I had been put on a mood stabilizer at the same time but this was before my bipolar Dx. It's common that anti-depressants trigger mania in people who are bipolar and the psychotic episodes are linked to the mania.

It may work fine for you though.

For me it's a wonder drug. However, results and experiences for different people vary greatly with it.

It works well for aspies in very, very small doses, like 75 mg a day or 75 mg. every other day. Take the regular dose and it will drive you up a wall, you won't be able to fall asleep and you won't be able to go the bathroom. But a very low doses ill actually make you functional.

300 milligrams (what I originally tried) was pretty harsh on me. 150 milligrams actually helps my anxiety a lot. Unfortunately, a month after starting it my depression came back like a ton of bricks. Doesn't seem to help much with that.

I've been on the antidepressants wellbutrin and zoloft for almost a decade now, with varying dosages. The chances are pretty slim I'll ever be entirely off these. For me, the difference was noticeable. Before antidepressants, just getting out of bed required a tremendous exertion of mental energy, and just getting through the day left me exhausted. The biggest effect that I notice is that my emotional reactions to things were toned way down after starting the antidepressants, and I found my mood was much more stable. These drugs don't affect everyone the same way, and won't work for everyone. Some people will have side effects that are worse than the initial problem, so it's really something that the doctor and patient have to decide what treatments are best.
