"Hi
([email protected])
My name is Miss Veronica, I saw your profile today and became intrested in you, I would like to contact me, my email address: ([email protected]) so I'll give you more of my data and photos.
Veronica Mabiza your new friend."

I've just received the above private message twice in my inbox - has anyone else?

These are phishing scam pm's I'm assuming and they need to be exposed so that no one vulnerable gets taken in by them.

Apparently, the site has been having a lot of trouble with automated spam bots recently. Over 1000 signing up per day, according to Tallyman.

Yes, my guess would be that Miss Veronica lives in Nigeria and has a penis.

I find it really insidious that they can target a site such as WP, knowing there are vulnerable people on here

I agree. They were posting here every day when I first joined, but I haven't encountered any more since then.

Yeah, I got this too. What gave it away was "profile." I don't really have much on my profile here that distinguishes me significantly from other members.

The xxx is the username should have given it away, too.

Hey mods, what if you banned the combination xxx is usernames? It seems that most bots in general use some combination of xxx in their usernames.

As long as we expose these people on the open forum we can keep new members safe

I doubt that the scammers are specifically targeting WP. They probably have no idea what ASD is. They just spam all the forums that they can.

Banning the text "xxx" probably won't do the trick, but there are heuristics that can be used to detect bots. I'm sure the mods are aware of this, but I don't know just what's possible with the board software WP is running.

It's been properly reported to the mods.

Do not reply to "Veronica" or any similar spammers.
