Do you go out of your way to avoid loud sudden noise?

I literally go out of my way to avoid loud sudden noise. Today when I got off the bus, there was a van parked at the bottom of my road, with two stupid young fellas sitting in it, and some others standing around it, all talking to the two fellas inside, and one of them kept randomly bibbing the horn, and I thought I'm not walking past those if they keep on bibbing the horn and making me jump (because I unvoluntarily flinch when I jump, which makes things worse), so I thought it'd be best to just avoid it all together. So I went a longer way round to my house, a road where I didn't have to pass this van and these stupid lads at all. It was slightly longer, but I would rather walk further than to approach loud noises!

Anyone feel the same way?

Yes, I avoid irritating noise even if it inconveniences me.....the noise would be a bigger "inconvenience" than taking a longer route, for example.

I will go out of my way to avoid noise, and SMELLS. Once I got on the bus and these two fat guys got on after me. They stunk, and the entire bus filled with their stench within seconds. So I got off the bus and waited for the next one. I was afraid that I would become ill if I remained on that bus. As for noise, if there is a large group of people standing and talking loudly where I must walk, I will most assuredly seek an alternate route. Or if someone invites me to some noisy event, I will not go.

Yep... I do this too. There was a concert going on the other day and I walked the long way around to avoid having my ears hurt.

Personally, I think that it makes logical sense. If there's something that hurts you or causes you to be uncomfortable, it's natural that you'd learn to avoid it.

Sometimes - it really depends on what the noise actually is.

I do own earplugs, but you get ridiculed where I come from if you appear to be wearing anything out of the ordinary. I have gone out with them in the winter, because I put my hat on over my ears so that nobody can see them. But I still didn't feel right because although I hate noise I still felt quite claustrophobic with not being able to hear anything at all. And because I don't look at people (fear of eye-contact with strangers), and somebody whom I know walks by me, I won't see them but won't hear them if they speak either, then I will look unfriendly to them. I've had this before - once I was sitting on the bus with my MP3, and one of my mum's friends had got on and was trying to get my attention to say hi, but because I wasn't looking at anyone nor could I really hear much because I had loud music on, I felt really bad when she told me a few days later, and I had to explain myself. So I don't think blocking sound out is a good idea. I just wish my nerves weren't so sensitive, that's all. It's not so much my ears - it's just the way I react to sudden loud noises. It's the way I jump then flinch with agitation. I really don't like it.

well, sometimes I have to pass a bus or even a underground train, because it is just too crowded. I realy can not stand crowded places where I cannot get away out when I already got into them. Especialy bus or elevators. Too many people, too many do smell, have bacteria on them touching around the handles and bars and whatever. And I fear not gettiing out the door once the bus or train arrives at my station. Sometimes I forced myself to stay put where I was, passing the station and getting out the next one, where more people got out and I had a chance to get out without coliding with other too much.
I cannot stand touching other people I do not know. It makes me shiver and feel very uneasy.

And for the noise part, I cannot avoide traveling by bus or underground train. But I realy would if I could avoid the braking noise of train brakes! Yes I realy would do! I cannot think about any other noise that is more terror to my brain!
