Is it common for people with AS to eat little? My parents always say that I eat like a bird. I can 50% of a resturant-sized potion of pasta and some appetizer, and be absolutely STUFFED! I probably eat too little. I don't want advice on how to eat more, I just want to know if it is an aspie thing or just me to eat like a bird.

I don't usually eat very much either. But I don't think this has anything to do with AS. I blame it on my easily irritated digestive system.

I am not sure why exactly but sometimes I don't have much of an appetite, it is probably related to depression. I do enjoy eating but sometimes it just seems hard to bring myself to eat anything. I don't think I have any sort of eating disorder....I am not afraid of gaining weight or anything like that.

I'd die if I ate like a bird.

I ate very sparingly as a child, even for one who grew up to be only 1.57m tall (5'2").

I only eat "like a bird" in the sense that I eat certain foods like potato chips and popcorn out of a bowl with my mouth, not using my hands.

Relative to their size, birds actually eat a lot, and more than humans.

Feeling full is related to your size, the size of your stomach, what you're eating, and the amount of food you normally eat.

i'm the opposite; i eat a *lot*, usually take an appetiser, pre meal, large portion; the leftovers of 2 or 3 others (sometimes half plates), dessert and still have room for more.
also; i have a preference for meat and fatty things; prime example carnivore ;)
although you might expect different, this is not relating directly into my shape; at my 1.97 meters (~6'5") i'm still under 100 kg...

After having an eating disorder for many years, my body has gotten used to little food so I get full very fast when I try and eat like a pig. But yet I can eat small amounts through out the day if I am not too lazy to eat or forgetful. But sometimes I eat a lot but I don't eat a lot all at once.

But yet I keep stuffing my tummy when I already feel full because the food is right in front of me. Just a problem I have always had and sometimes I have willpower to stop eating even if there is more on my plate or in my bowl. Same as when I want to eat a certain thing like sweets, I don't even want to eat at all. That's why I don't buy many sweets or else I'd be eating that only whenever I feel like eating. Having good food in my home will make me eat healthy when I starve.

When I'm not taking my medication, I have a lot of sensory issues with eating. I either rarely eat, or I eat way too much of "junk food" because I can stomach it even when I'm having trouble with food. Now I eat about the equivalent of what my three year old son eats, and I feel really good.
I started my medication at the end of January 2011, and I've already lost 35 lbs just from normalizing my eating habits (because I don't have nearly the sensory issues). I haven't changed my lifestyle much at all, so it really showed me how much my eating habits affected me. I have another 60 lbs to go though....phew.
