There is suppose to be a link between AS and not having enough fatty/ amino acids. There is also a like between having bad scalp and also not having enough fatty/amino acids. I have AS and had once suffered from a bad scalp problem. So it seems more convincing that there is a strong link

I have always had problems with acne, fat hair, fat skin and dandruff, more so than what can be helped with normal remedies.
But that might also be linked to problems with the lungs, for example, seeing as I have had asthma...

It's a neurological disorder.

The problem is while people with AS (and a number of other conditions) have lowwer
levels of certain fatty acid if they take fatty acids it will not correct the problem. Many
people do report and there are some studies in which fatty acids helped improve a
number of mental issues with various conditions. But that being said its not going have
major effects in most. I take fish oil for a few months now.

I have taken fatty acids, and it worked - it made me even more depressed.

I have always had the problem with fat-dry hair. The hair is fine, and "dry" but the scalp is fat. If I wash my hair to often, the scalp will either get too dry or even fattier. My skin is like a young girl's, very few wrinkles, but sensitive. I have plenty of beard growth, but it hurts when I shave, so now I'm growing a beard.

Typical fish oil is close to a one to one ratio of DHA to EPA fatty acids. Pure DHA became
available from fermentation of marine algaes and testing with pure DHA seemed to make
mental issues worst. Which is strange because the brain uses for more DHA than EPA.
Anyway there are studies in which high EPA oils are most effective form of fish oil. Though they are expensive and harder to locate (and perhaps their effectiveness is
not true also!). I think to be high EPA it needs to be several times more EPA than DHA.

I think the structure of the brain is pretty much set at birth or after a certain age. An infection or genetic predisposition can change the brain structure, and voila, the person has Asperger's. But who knows, maybe the symptoms can be ameliorated by these herbs. Scientific tests are a must, but beyond that, why not?

The analogy I use is a club foot. Your brain wiring is about as fixed as that.

Nutrition is very important. I believe you need good nutrition to function at your full capacity. Now, if you're at a reduced capacity in certain areas like attention span or social receptiveness, then you certainly don't want to be reduced even further.

So I guess nutrition could improve things if you are exacerbating an existing problem due to malnutrition. However, I would never look toward it as an effective treatment. I'll believe that's possible when I see someone take some herbs that causes their club foot to reshape into a standard foot shape. If nutrition works for you, then you never had a neurological disorder. You had a nutrition-related problem.

No your not likely to cure any mental issues with fatty acids. At best your going to get
a reduction in some problems.

Part of the theory of their mechanism of action is the cells in the brain like all cells in
the body have fatty acid memebanes. The typical western diet is very low in omega-3
fatty acids (DHA,EPA) and the brain will use non-omega-3 fatty acids when there is a
shortage. Like trans-fatty acid (hydrogenated cooking oils) or saturate fats, etc. Resulting in more rigid membanes that slow nerve transmission. Over a period of months
you can eat a large amount of omega-3's and change the membanes of those cells.
And thus change the rates they transmitt.

I've never tried a high EPA oil I have a large bottle of standard fish oil when i finish it I plan to switch to a high EPA oil.

I get dandruff something chronic. I also have read that it is also an issue with Angelman Syndrome (AnS) as well. Maybe they also have a fatty/amino acid deficiancy as well.

I have bad dandruff a lot. I always thought that was genetic, though. (from a parent not on the spectrum)
