My friend Chris brought this up. I enjoy books and college work and videogames among other things. When finishing a book today I went into "Aspie obsession mode" and HAD to finish it. Chris mention I'm not truely happy unless I'm in that state with special interest. I'd have to agree. Personally at times I feel like I put on a facade smile/"happy" "good mood" but TRUE happiness for me is knee deep in college work or a good book/show/videogame. Can any other Aspie relate to this?

I'm at my happiest when deeply involved with an art project, you'll never see a happier person :)

I don't know for sure, but it's hard to be happy without something to obsess over.

Yes, I think so.
Happiness is turned on like a switch when it comes to the special interest.
While I am interested in many things, and can derive a good deal of pleasure and happiness from them, being immersed in my special interest is a categorically different experience.

My true interest is, of course, all things plants. I get little glimpses of the true happiness every time I come across something having to do with plants. But...
Put me in the garden or in the forest, and I begin to feel an overwhelming sense of joy and peace and all-is-right-with-the-world.
I am energized, talkative, generous, curious, creative, friendly, loving... HAPPY :D
There is nothing else in my life that compares to this.

Happy? I'm not sure. But being wrapped up in reading or pursuing a project is probably the closest I come.

I'm happiest when doing something I enjoy. It doesn't have to be an obsession.

For me, Happiness IS fulfilling my special interests. Lately, I've been developing a thing for castles, but my true joy comes from learning Japanese.

It puts me in a good mood. Most of the time I'm in a neutral kinda mood, but doing something special interest related makes me alot happier :D

I'm the happiest when I have a CD playing or I have YouTube on while posting on WP.

i would definatly go with the argument that when I don't have something that I am doing (with pretty much every spare second i can find) i am very prone to depression. Of course I ususally get out by taking up a new interest.

as a side thought,(moved to its own thread)
