I'm looking for a place (preferably online) where I can purchase weighted blankets. I dont have -major- sensory issues, but they do exist. Ideally, I just want a better nights sleep. I've got a really heavy blanket, but it's just too hot. I've had some bad experiences with online vendors, (My Emerald Chard got charged repeatedly by one vendor in small increments until my entire tax return was gone, in just a few days. The website went offline and disappeared.) but I think a weighted blanked would help me significantly to sleep and unwind after a stressful day. I'm not exactly sure how heavy I want it, so I figured I'd ask you guys.

Do any of you use weighted blankets?
How heavy is comfortable for you?
Do they become excessively hot?
And most importantly, where did you purchase it? (Pricing is definitely a factor)

This is such a good idea. In the summer, I find duvets too hot, but just quilt is too light. I will also attempt to find a weighted blanket.

I use a 15 lb weighted blanket every night. I've had it for 2 or 3 years now, and I LOVE it. I feel antsy all day if I don't sleep under it. Mine is flannel (sooo soft and not itchy!) and no, it's almost never too hot. I honestly can't remember where my grandma purchased it for me, but it was over $200 after shipping was all said and done...

Yes, but I made my own. The skill level required is advanced-beginner at sewing or quilting; not very demanding, though making a blanket with weights can be awkward to maneuver.

That is a fantastic idea. Unfortunately, with school and work I simply don't have the time to invest in that sort of project. I may consider asking my mother to consider making one along those lines, but I'll have to find something smaller than those glass beads. The lumps would drive me insane.

I'll keep checking out ya'lls links and doing my own research.

Has anyone ever purchased anything from this site; http://www.sensorygoods.com/ ?

I have a weighted blanket, but it's alive. :D

A weighted blanket? I never thought of that. It's a good idea.

it never occurred to me until now that i depend heavily on this lovely quilted blanket my ex-boyfriend gave me until now, not as a source of warmth, but because of its weight. Yet i must sleep under this particular blanker everyday, regardless of how hot it is, ill often turn the fan in my bedroom on full blast to make up for the excess heat, much to my younger sisters chagrin! I wanna get in touch with someone who knows how to use a sewing machine (even if it means going to my royal b***h mother in law to my sister for it) to make me one of the ones like what Callista made, cuz i am rather wretched at sewing! i am even prepared to pay whoever makes this $75 for their services, which is still a steal compared to those expensive weighted blankets ive seen online! or i can look for a secondhand one, on Ebay or somewhere.

The pressure is fantastic. I have this quilt/blanket/throw amalgamation that was given to me when I was all but homeless. It was incomplete, and covered with safety pins to hold the various layers together, hot as a sonofagun, but I could hardly sleep without it. Due to 110F plus temperatures, I've learned to adapt without it, but I'm not sleeping very well. It probably weighs about seven pounds.

I have two and they are great.

The first one is 15 pounds. One side is fleece and the other is cotton. The weight is evenly distributed throughout the whole thing. I love it. I had it custom made.

My second one is for a place I sleep a lot other than my house. It is made of cotton on both sides. It is 13 pounds and the weight is concentrated in the torso area of the blanket. It is a very soothing blanket. I ordered it from the Salt of the Earth website than someone already mentioned.

The cotton blanket without fleece is fairly cool (as opposed to too hot). I would recommend it as a summer blanket.

My son has one, but I do not. I found his on Etsy.com and it is small...ideal for a 4 yr old like him, but not enough for an adult like me. We also have a weighted neck blanket that drapes across his shoulders for in the car. Because of their heaviness, shipping can be costly so if you are able to make one for yourself, that is a good option. My son enjoys having them and asks for the blanket at night. He liked having the neck piece on in the airport too. I can see the difference in him.
I too like to sleep with a heavy quilt at night despite the temperature of the room. I definitely sleep better.
