school reports
I've just been looking at some end of year reports from when i was 16. I know lots of people use there reports to help them get a diagnosis, but mine seem quite good. I participated well according to the teachers and none of them noticed anything too odd. Apart from my excessive and constant reading at any spare moment! I think my own personall statement might seem a bit odd, but certainly no one seemed to think i had any social issues or learning/behaviour problems.
i was 16 by this time of course and i was rather sensible and grown up for my age, and i was only at that school for two years. I hated it and didn't make a single friend the whole time - hence the lots of book reading, i spent my time in the library or hiding in the school grounds.
Anyway, i was wondering if anyone else has had unhelpful school reports? Or wether most people seem to have been noticed as being different at school? I don't have any early reports, and certainly none from primary school(ages 5-11)

To be honest, one year will not tell a doctor much about you vis-a-vis if you have AS or not. Doctors need to be able to look at a span of years starting usually at the pre-school lever (hence the request usually to interview mothers who are usually closest to the child at that age).
My school reports were very helpful but then, they covered a period from 3 years of age to 14 years of age (with some broken areas but enough to fill in the blanks). In fact, I was originally seen at age 3 because of regression related to a traumatic experience but once the IQ test results came back, the doctor said that there was more than simply emotional issues.

Teachers are no longer allowed to make negative comments on school reports, although thay can make recommendations. This means that any problems you are having might not get noted on your report. Another problem is that they are so often provided with a list of statements, and they simply "cut and paste" the appropriate ones on. This saves a huge amount of time for them, but does not allow for individual differences.
Most of my school reports just say that I am doing well academically, and would benefit from more participation in class discussion.
Most of my teachers found me 'difficult,' moody and immature. I'm pleased to say I have grown up since I left school, it just seemed to take me a bit longer than it took everyone else.
Considering they had me seeing the school shrink on a regular basis at every school I went to from about age 10 till 17 I would say they noticed something wrong.. but no diagnosis or referral was ever forthcoming.
I guess I was on that borderline where they knew I wasnt quite right but didnt know what it was either and it didnt seem severe enough to warrant calling in a professional so I was kept in a holding pattern.
Of course I didnt help much by refusing to talk to them more than single word responses to direct questions either

The average secondary school teacher has 5 or 6 classes of students a day which is about 150 to 200 students for less than 1 hour a day. i would guess they wouldn't notice much if somebody sat down, shut up and did their school work and passed their tests.
Most of them are just punching the clock for a paycheck and the lower profile they keep the better and don't go looking for problems, just waiting for the day they can retire.
Many of them are just clones of the people working at the department of motor vehicles and just totally indifferent to anyones problems. They put on phony show to act like they care, thats about it.
They became teachers for one reason, it offers lots of time off and if they can sucker the taxpayers they are God's gift to their children, the moron taxpayers will shower them with money and they can enjoy their time off.
