I'm so happy. Happy, happy, happy.

I wear perfume every day. The same one, Amerige by Givenchy, since as long as I can remember. Unfortunately it's getting harder and harder to find. The last time it ran out I had to buy something else instead. It was nice enough and I used it every day.

Then a few months ago my husband found Amerige at the duty free shop and bought me a bottle. I didn't open it, deciding to finish off the open bottle instead.

Today, I got to open my new bottle. I can smell it wafting around me. It's so beautiful, it actually lifts my mood and makes me feel brighter and cheerier and smiley.

Does anyone else have this extreme (positive) reaction to a certain perfume? It's like a drug. I keep putting my wrist to my nose just to get more of it. :D

Sure, i tend to like almost all perfume. The ones that stick with me the most are from people i like a lot, i will connect their character with the smell. So whenever i smell that perfume it brings up a lot of experiences.

I usually wear Elle by Yvessaintlaurent, it smells lovely. :D It's very subtle though and you can't smell it after a while.
When I first got it I'd spray it on my wrist and just keep smelling my wrist, getting ridiculously happy every time I did. xD

Anyone know any nice long-lasting vanilla perfumes...? I absolutely adore vanilla.

You will probably find that the perfume last longer than you think. The problem is that our noses become accustomed to the scent and stop picking up on it, but it's still there for others.

All perfume needs to go down the drain.

Achoo! Shallow breathing. Why am I so itchy? Argh, it burns!

No, I do not like perfume for the reasons described above. Essentially, I am allergic to it.
I can also get high off certain scents and trigger some sort of colour or texture. Most times it's like a bad trip for me.

Amarige by Givenchy - the signature fragrance of a friend, I can smell it right now!
I do not like it at all actually, but I used to love it on her - her skin and this perfume were a match made in heaven, :) .

You opened a Pandora's Box here, MotherKnowsBest,, I loved so many fragrances over the years.

These are my top three (for now):

Aromatics Elixir - 1971 Clinique
springs immediately to mind. It is a very strong old fashioned 70s chypre scent, but, oh, how I love it!

Dune - 1991 Dior
Otherwordly - as close as a transient reductionist like myself can come to spirituality.

Hiris - 1999 Hermes
This is a wonderful scent, metallic, cool, fresh, raspy and unbelievably soft at the same time!

Hypnotic Poison by Christian Dior

receives very good reviews as a vanilla scent, just don't come near me when you're wearing it - I had to sit next to a colleague, who fell in love with the stuff and did not realize everybody else in the room hadn't,.

I tend to like body sprays and scented lotions better than perfumes. They arn't as strong and don't bother my allergies. I really like botanical scents-- the one that gives me the most similar reaction to what you describe ( I can't stop sniffing my hands or wrist- I try to be subtle about it) is a Bath and Body Works lotion called Black Currant and Vanilla. It's part of a special line that I can't think of the name of right now. I love it.
What was really funny was when an ex-manager of mine at work asked if anyone had any lotion because his hands were really dry and I told him to try mine; it wasn't really girly and I thought he might like it. He put it on and then he kept sniffing his hands! He asked me "What's in this stuff? I can't keep my hands out of my face!" It was extra funny because he is a big black guy, retired military--someone you just wouldn't suspect of reacting like that!
They also have another one that I really like called Vanilla Noir; it's a little more sophisticated than some of the vanillas that make you smell like a sugar cookie.
I do also like one perfume, Clinique Happy, and also good old fashioned patchouli oil or amber resin.

I get slightly addicted to some of the soap in the body shop too. I used to have a lemon one that I carried around with me as a teenager so I could get my fix. :D

My piano teacher wore the perfume by Guess, I think, and I couldn't get enough of it. Or maybe it was a Gucci perfume. Can't remember. It smelled vanilla-ish and was quite subtle. I used to wear Curious by Britney Spears. I don't know why I stopped wearing perfume... perhaps the regulations about not wearing scented products in some places weaned me off of it.

I hate perfumes, they make me gag for breath. I can't stand to be near women with perfume or those stinky parts of department stores that sell the disgusting stuff. It is toss up which smells worse, perfume, air fresheners or toilet cleaner. :eew:

Funnily enough, after starting this thread this morning I've developed an intense headache and my mood has plummeted to out-and-out-miserable-so-and-so-ish.
