Sorry if this topic has come up before.

Is there anyone on WP who's into stage or close-up magic?

I was watching Penn and Teller on the television last night with my partner and he said that a lot of magicians are aspies. Not that Penn or Teller are, just in general. He said it gives you a way of impressing people at places like parties without having to socialise with them in the normal way. You can put on a persona and talk to people in a structured way. It can also become a special interest that you practice for ages. There are always new things to learn.

I think I'm too horribly dyspraxic to be any good at magic but I like trying to find out how the tricks are done.

Well, I'm not too shabby at "magic" tricks, because I can figure out how to do them easily. I think "illusional tricks" would have been a better name.

Wow. Hadn't realised Ellis was an Aspie. bugger me. Just checked on a hunch. I knew there was an Aussie Aspie magician who did a show called Aspie-cadabra (or something like it), but it never clicked that it was Tim Ellis. Live and learn.

I'm on most of the magic forums (talk magic, magicbunny, etc) and have chatted with others there who are aspies, though I doubt that there are many in the mix.

Love magic. Started collecting the Tarbell set. But it has to sit on the back burner for a while until I work out what I want to be if I grow up. Loved practicing sawing siblings in half... I have several half sisters
