I love being obsessed with a special interest. It gives me joy and purpose!

Often times I wonder what on Earth do NTs think about? Must get pretty dull thinking a little bit about lots of different things instead of thinking lots about one thing .

I also love my special interests as well. They give me something to look forward to.

I don't really have special interests anymore... maybe I suppressed them or something.

Me too.
I just love my special obsession.
Mine is programming.
Its exciting seeing what the end result of my code is and how long the code takes to write and so on.

I don't have any special interests because I've been suffering badly from depression which kills of any interest you may have in anything. Before the depression and before I had ever heard of AS I assumed everybody else had specific interests, but I can see now that this isn't true.

@nemorosa: What was your last interest?

I can barely remember mine. I'm able to tell someone what they were but I really don't remember much about them at all.

Mine was and is horses, riding/grooming etc etc. I was manic about horses as a kid.

But now like some, mine seem to have slithered away. Not sure why, I have lots of time. I find now I'm an adult, it's hard when no one around you has that same keen interest, so you can't talk on and on about that one thing and when I can't talk about something I feel ashamed about doing it :(

Though I did just start a garden yesterday and I do plan on taking up riding lessons again, when this dark cloud lets some sunshine in.

Astronomy was one.

Like you my memory is hazy (think that's the depression again, and possibly the after effects of medication) and I'm sure I used to be obsessed with far more subjects. Recently I seem to be confined to very short term interests. For example something in the news may spark and interest and I may have to research in in minute detail, but after a few days is forgotten again.

Without any long term interests I'm finding it very difficult to motivate myself to do anything

Yeah, pretty much what I've been going through I think, minus any medication. I latch on to short term things but I tend to quickly lose interest.

Kinda sucks. These 'special interest' things are supposed to be the main perk for this disease. Doesn't work when they're short term and usually unsatisfying.

I'd probably put sleeping a bit higher up on the scale, but other than that, it's perfect.

I love my special interests. Even when I have nothing to do, they give me something to think about.
