I'm not getting any connection at all between the story and the "NT vs. non-NT question."
Tiger Woods wanted to be a golfer at 4. Lots of successful athletes, actors, singers, musicians, etc. etc. who are NT's knew what they wanted at a very early age and never let go of it until they attained it.
This guy just happened to have an unusual passion. Doesn't make him NT or non NT. Special interests are not the sole domain of Autism. Lots of non-Autistics have them.
I don't see anything in the article to support your statement about his mother either.

Not understanding how you got that idea from that. All she said was that he's not a Savant.
