these people across the street from me seem to be playing some sort of video game so loud that i have to listen to it in my house. the thing is that they turn it up for a while then turn it down. so, when i call the police it's quiet and when the police leave they start it up again.

just keep calling until they get caught?

My suggestion would be to audio record them and keep a log of times when they are disruptive. You will have more evidence to go with your complaint that way.

If it's during the day, I don't think there's a whole lot that can be done. Unless it's against the homeowners agreement (or something similar), there's nothing wrong (legally) with making lots of noise. If, however, this is going on at 3AM, that's a bit different.

^^ Good idea.

What's your favorite style of music?

Load it up, put it on "Repeat" and "Shuffle", turn the volume up, and let it rip.

You can try headphones that cancel out noise or muffle it.

that makes no sense as one cannot do things with lots of racket going on all the time and sometimes people like to do things like read during the day. luckily my town has a no tolerance policy towards noise. I've heard they'll even pull people over and write them tickets for bassing in their cars. and i can understand why after having to deal with it so much. the people around here are as*holes.

and headphones and earphones won't block it. my IEMs are dead, i'm hoping to get some new ones if i get SSI. plus i can't wear non custom ones for very long. i'm hoping to try some custom ones. headphones are also painful for me.

Laws vary based on location. I've never seen cops after anyone just for making lots of noise where I live.

Move to Scotland.........The police can raise the matter in terms of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982. If their request to turn the music down is ignored, they may confiscate the offending equipment. The Act also covers annoyance caused by TVs, radios, hi-fis, musical instruments, singing and so on.
The only problem being if you call the police to report a noisy neighbour, it usually warrants a low priority response SO when the police eventually turn up 12 hours later they wonder what you are on about because there ISN`T any noise. [from experience]

You could just simply ask them nicely a few times (up to three attempts is reasonable), if that doesn't work log and record to build up a proofbase as mentioned above.
