This is quite possibly in the wrong section, because the relevancy of autism is a bit tangential. An autistic acquaintance recently informed me that he's being sent someplace he called Yscross Center in Lexington, Kentucky for evaluation for the next two weeks. I'm a bit concerned, seeing as he doesn't seem to know much of anything about "Yscross Center," which is misspelled because a place by that actual name doesn't actually exist. Does anyone know what the real spelling might be? I'm rather worried.

You should contact a social services organization in the area that you may know about or know of...they should be able to help. And yes, it is very important to know what the center or this place is all about before he goes.

You are a good friend to help him out. I live in Louisville, KY, and I've never heard of this place. I looked through some KY resource lists ( it was easy, there's not many  ) and saw no mention of anyplace with a similar name. I'd ask him what information he has on this place. If you think it might embarrass him that you are checking around for him, maybe just tell him that you were interested and couldn't find any info on your own.

I too can find nothing even remotely similar in spelling to the place your friend mentioned, so I would ask them to go into further details on where it is and what exactly it is.

I did just think of something... a friend of mine whose son has AS mentioned something to me about a Dr. Wyckoff (similar sounding name)-but they were associated with UofL so Louisville, not Lexington. I will call her today and check the name and see if I can find out anything.

Danger Will Robinson! Red Alert! All hands to battle stations!

After reading a few of these posts concerning the inability to find such a place, I would be far more than a little concerned as to the nature of the place and its goals and methods, if it really exists at all. Perhaps this is just a cover when the real destination is someplace other than what was stated? This is due to the reputation of JRC (Judge Rotenberg Center). Personally I tend to have a huge mistrust of any such institution, or camp. I would advise extreme caution.

Places like the Rotenberg Center are precisely why I'm concerned, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of options, here. I was planning to try and get a name or address at some point, so I'd have a lead to check up on in case he ever suddenly vanished (he'd already told me they were considering hospitalizing him), but I didn't want to start demanding personal information from him when I wasn't willing to give him any in return, so I decided to wait until I'd given him more reason to trust me.

Last I heard from him, he said he might not be able to chat for a while, because he was being evaluated at the mysterious Yscross Center in Lexington (when I asked him which Lexington he said he was pretty sure it was Kentucky, so it might be a different one). I asked him how far away it was, and he said he wasn't sure, but I didn't have a chance to get even a ballpark estimate from him, because he left in the middle of the conversation and hasn't since responded to my messages (this was just about half an hour before I started this thread). If this mysterious evaluation center is really far away from him, then there's a bit less cause for concern. It makes perfect sense to stay overnight if it's a four hour commute there. On the other hand, if it's only an hour or two away from him, there's good odds they're having him stay overnight so that he'll already be locked in if they decide to keep him, thus avoiding potential trouble...Also, the further away the place is, the more it'll gather around extremes of either genuinely helpful or barbarically harmful, so I'm not sure if that's good or bad news...

The times we talked definitely suggest a US timezone, but going to Kentucky kind of implied that anyway, so not much help there. I don't think anyone other than me has bothered making friends with him, so there's not really anyone else I can go to for more information. It's theoretically possible he's just lying, and the real reason he's not around for two weeks is just because he got grounded (he's sixteen years old) or went on vacation or something, but this guy is really autistic, enough so that I'm not sure if he's even capable of lying in real time. So, while it's not impossible, I doubt he's lying, and I'm certainly not going to be on it.

Meh. There's got to be a lead I haven't checked up on yet. This trail can't be completely cold. Does anyone here possibly have a special interest in investigation or something?

How about this:

"Ywca - Cross Keys Center is a Weight Loss Consultant facility and is located in Lexington, KY"

I found this using google.

Hmm. That looks like a probable match, but a weight loss center seems like a weird place to go for evaluation for the kinds of things he was telling me about (he seems to think it's mostly because he's autistic, but I think it's got more to do with the voices he says he hears and which I forgot to mention until now (oops)). Weight loss would certainly seem the least of his problems, but I don't actually know how much he weighs, so maybe.

They have a phone number listed. Bugger, I'll probably have to call. I hate talking on the phone, possibly more than talking face to face.

Perhaps try contacting a local autism centre as well to see if no know of this place and if they think it is legit?

This is what I was referring to in my previous post:
Systematic Treatment of Autism & Related Disorders Weisskopf Child Evaluation Center 571 South Floyd Street Suite 100. Louisville, KY 40202 502 852 3797 ...
Just a possibility... the names are pretty similar
