Anyone attended a NAS (uk) social group?

Anyone on Wrong Planet attended a NAS social group targeted at aspergers / HF adults? If so it would be great if you could share your experiences, how the groups run, the typical number and types of people who attend, etc.

The Nottingham group is of particular relevance to me, but discussion of any NAS or other organised group welcome.

Could you provide a little bit of information about these groups? This is the first time I've ever heard about them.

The National Autistic Society run a number of social groups throughout the county aimed specifically high functioning / aspergers people.

I don’t have much information about them, only that they exist. I can’t find much reference to them on forums such as this one. One of the things that I’m trying ascertain is why this is. Are these meets only beeing attended by people who are disabled in a more classic sense?

Anyone out there got experience of these types of meets? I would really like to know more information. If these groups are a worthwhile resource to tap into it would drive me to seek an official diagnosis.

Ive recently found out these one of these NAS meets near me every month.
Im also curious as to the relative high-functioning status of the members as that would probably affect whether itd be something id find rewarding.

Have you been to any of the independantly run support groups?

Ive not been to any of these organised meet-ups as yet, but i post regularly on the village forums.

I haven’t been to any other independent AS groups, only one or two SA ones (social anxiety), which is another story.

Unfortunately Aspie Village aren’t accepting new registrations at the moment.

Come on people. Someone here must have experience of a NAS or similar type of group.

It appears that there is limited support for a certain section of people. A sort of limbo land. This is what frustrates me. I’m not equipped to make the social progress I feel is in accordance with my general ability. And I’m not low functioning, a situation where I get the impression I would be more content with low achievement and there be more support.

I think the idea of meet-ups sounds great. We need a database of where everyone lives and get them intouch with each other.

A bunch of aspies getting having fun/acting silly together would great fun.
