Hot baths or showers help me sleep, sometimes I have a snack or sandwich

Reading in bed I like, so I dont mind being awake sometimes

I get it sometimes. Mostly when I'm going through something stressful.
I do have a very unhealthy sleeping pattern which I'm trying to change. Unsuccessfully so far.

Hot shower, relaxing music and warm milk with cardamom and cinnamon usually help.

I do. I just got diagnosed by my doctor a couple of days ago. I find a hot shower listening to people talking like a radio station in the background helps as well as reading and not going to bed to early like 8pm. I find if Im stressed or anxious I wont sleep.

My daughter used to have sleeping problems. Thank God not anymore. Her sleeping problems were related to anxiety. A bath before going to sleep, relaxing music, readibg and linden tea helped her. But if that does not work for you, you should talk to your phisician about it. Also try to avoid watching TV or using the computer at leadt 1 hour before going to sleep. Try to perform activities you like that are stress-free, like puzzles, crafts, etc.

Sorta. Up until a couple of months ago, yes!! !
But now, I just have to take so much effort to get a 'normal' nights sleep. I think that's the problem with me, not insomnia, I just have to put so many measures in place that I never figured out before. :)

I do a pretty good job of managing my "can't fall asleep", but I still have problems sometimes with "can't stay asleep". I hate waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back into it :x

I have had chronic insomnia for approx 14 or more years, most of my life.

Off and on here, mostly on lately (possibly age-related; I've found myself becoming more symptomatic as I approach the half-century mark). I've found that generally, I can overcome it with some simple, repetitive game, like Tetris (if you have access to an old GameBoy), or Sweet Tooth 2 (available on iPhone), and/or with a movie I've seen a thousand times already or a radio station (fortunately, we have a local station that only does news, no musical interludes or talk-radio call-in shows to angry up the blood). In extreme cases, I find the music of Orbital (fairly quiet and repetitive electronica), played at very low volume, can be helpful, especially the Brown Album. If that doesn't work, I give up, get up, and take care of whatever I can that won't wake up the rest of the house, or indulge in some of my favorite online games that require my attention (the kids need too much of my time during the day, so it's hard to find time to play, say, the Resistance mission pack in Champions Online).

I do get it occasionally, biggest challenge is just going to bed!

Yes. Going an entire night, not being able to sleep no matter how tired you are, isn't very pleasant. I get four hours a night and count myself lucky.

I could seem so, but once I fall asleep I can be unconscious for like, 10 hours. I am super picky about how I fall asleep. SUPER picky about my environment. :(
