Hi everyone, I just wanted to find out how people feel about travelling and what are the good and bad points about it for people with AS. Personally I love travelling, it's my main obsession at the moment and it's all I can think about. I just love finding out about different cultures and seeing how people live in different countries. I also enjoy making up travel itineraries and planning trips. I'm not sure if I'd cope with a trip that I hadn't planned in detail because I like things to be predictable, but of course not everything when travelling can be predictable. I've just read 'travels with my teddy bear' by Debra Schiman and she says that one of the reasons she loves travelling, especially when visiting countries where they don't speak much English is that her communication problems aren't highlighted so much because everyone is in the same boat. I think that is one of the reasons why I like it too, because I'm not so interested in visiting English speaking countries. So do you like travelling, why or why not and what do you like and dislike about it? Thanks :)

I love travel. Its an amazing feeling watching the world go by outside the car/train window. Its amazing especially when travelling to naturally beautiful areas such as mountains and forests.

I absolutely hate travelling and I refuse to budge unless something is on fire. I dislike all the related activities too, such as packing, unpacking, etc.

Love traveling.
- love novelty
- am depressed and stifled by staying in one place
- love foreign languages
- love food I've never tried
- love the way it's almost like you're transported into another dimension when you travel by airplane: get on in your home city, see nothing but clouds for a few hours, wake up in a completely different place that would take weeks or months to walk to and probably isn't even walkable to, a place w different weather, flora, fauna, people, customs, architecture, dialect
- love the minimalism of traveling. Don't have a whole room (or house of possessions to think about, worry about how to navigate, just you and a bag or two to worry about
- people from different cultures gave a harder time detecting my weirdness, not being intimately familiar with the cultural norms of where I come from

I love it. I like actually getting to the place too, especially boat & overground train journeys.

I like seeing different places but the effort to do so usually means I stay at home. I also feel safer there.

I have a love/hate relationship with it. I too love seeing new places, different cultures, etc. But I loathe actually getting there. Plane travel is by far the worst. And I also hate sleeping/staying anywhere other than my home. What I need is a TARDIS.

I like traveling, but only in moderation. By that, I mean not going too far, not staying too long, and having plenty of time after the trip to get back into my usual routine.

This is much more correct. I wouldn't mind seeing new places, it is the getting there and back that makes me loathe travelling.
I do hate not finding my toothbrush where I usually put it. Or not being able to throw my clothes into the wash the minute I get out of them.

Me too.
Or, perhaps, a Liberator?

I also love to travel. The only problem is that I don't have a passport, so I can't travel outside of my own country.

I Love travelling, it's always great to see new places I haven't been to before. I also feel like the minimalist in me comes out when road tripping and staying in a hotel.

My dream is to see a big city like NYC, with all the skyscrapers, architecture and marvels that such a big place has to offer. But, my only recent travels have been to a theme park and a town of ~1000 people (though halfway across the country) to see my other Grandparents. :P I will see the Big Apple Yet! :D

I actually went to Mt. St. Helens today! Lovely views of the volcano's big gaping hole blown into it's side.

I do not like traveling at all. I am interested in other places and I watch the Travel channel and the like and that is satisfactory for me. I don't like sleeping in a different place, changing my routine and I feel fearful when I'm far from home. Even not so far.

I've come to dislike any form of travel, especially trains...

As long as it`s not by car! The farthest I`ve gone is Florida. I would love to see more states and Europe!
