I get intimidated by all the super muscular guys and the stick thin girls. And the only thing I'm really coordinated enough to do is the stationary bike, so it's not really worth my time unless I'm going with a friend.

I go twice a week. Frankly, I'd prefer to have the place to myself, but I go early enough that there's only about two other people there.

I built my own gym on our ranch, and I work out 4 days/week. I hate public gyms (not public as in free, but I mean gyms with other people there). I have to use them while traveling, and I feel judged most every time. And I'm bigger and in better shape than 90% of the guys working out, and I still feel judged. When I use the gym on vacation, I go at 5:00 in the morning, and often it's empty except for me.... But going at 5:00 in the morning doesn't work in the city. All the working guys are there at that time, then the retirees show up in the mid-morning, then God forbid, the high school jocks show up at 3. Forget it.

Blecch. I don't like gyms at all. It just seems so pointless to me--staying on one machine, performing repetitive movements for no good reason. I much prefer going out and walking or riding a bike--which is what I'm doing now. Well, not today, because stupid me forgot the sunblock yesterday, so I've got a sunburn from the stupidly intense summer sun. I'll be out again tomorrow, though.

Great if that works for you.

I have bad allergies and the outdoors are not kind to me. Also no convenient places to go. Gym gives me options the neighborhood does not, but I agree you can do a lot cheaply outdoors.

The funny thing about building muscles is,
if you dont keep up with your exercises your body looks weird. like deformed or something
(i think, I'll just keep my scrawny frame~ i dont want to look like a mutant, :pig:)
that and its expensive. you can work out for free. a park bench is a good place for push-ups for example

Maybe once a week. I don't like going by myself very much.

I haven't exercised since high school and I have little intention of starting. I hate the entire atmosphere and the fact they're incessantly trying to sell personal training really puts me off. A "friend" tried to get me to go by offering me a week free. Once I got there I was forced to endure a half hour hard sell on getting a trainer. I didn't speak to my friend for 3 months after that. Though as a small aside, my car recently died. I've been forced to bike everywhere I go. I now fit into my college pants again, so that's a small victory I guess.

But if you keep it up, you look and feel good for all your life  . Also, building and keeping a lot of bulky lean muscle tissue will cause your metabolism to use up a lot more calories, and will prevent body fat from building up as we get older.

People sometimes stare at my arms with all the veins, and maybe they think it looks mutant or deformed, but it a helluva lot of work to get this way, so it doesn't bother me if they want to think it looks weird.

The (small) gym I go to is deserted at 7am. Just me, I can play whatever music I want and just do weights and stretches and use any equipment, its a really nice peaceful contemplative time of day.

I don't do gyms, but I like to go swimming at a hotel leisure club.
It is usually pretty quiet and peaceful, and I find it calming.
I do get a bit annoyed when anyone else turns up though, especially a male as they tend to look at me, and I don't like to interract when I am focussed on an activity...well, anytime actually, lol.

I tend to visit the gym 2 or 3x a week, unless I am doing a lot of cycling.

Been lifting weights since my early teens and it has been my lifelong friend.
