So, here's my story: I got back on Risperdal this January, after almost a year off it; and while I am more calmer and quieter with it, I also feel much more bored when on it. How could this be?

Did you also happen to stop smoking marijuana around the same time? That might explain it.

Whaaat, it *is* legal in your state now! :P

Why are you taking that?!?!

...I can see why it could make you bored; I can see why it can do all kinds of things. When I was taking it, one of the horrible things it did to me was drastically lower my sex drive. I've discovered that with such a low sex drive I don't find as much joy in...anything. Has it changed your sex drive? It also made me more tired, and if you're tired, maybe things may bore you too. Also, doesn't it supposedly help some Autistic people with sensory issues? Maybe the good parts of your sensory differences (which were probably previously overshadowed by the problems they caused) helped keep you from boredom? That last one is just my crazy theory :P

I guess I may have gotten bored from the Risperidal when I started taking it but I just didn't notice because I already expected to be bored. I don't know...I just didn't like how it reacted with my body! It made me...lactate.

Are you bored because you don't enjoy anything? Nothing is fun so you're always bored no matter what you do?

Risperdal is very similar to Seroquel. They're both antipsychotics that have other off label uses. I'm on Seroquel for an off label purpose but before it I was on Risperdal. I switched because Seroquel did the same thing but I experience less intense side effects on it.

I suspect that Seroquel is responsible for me not being able to experience enjoyment. It makes life extremely boring.

Lactate? Incredible. I take it because it was suggested by a previous doctor. Guess the boredom is a natural thing with the Risperdal.

That stuff is pretty strong. Its primary use is for schizophrenia...

Risperdal, like all neuroleptics, has a common side effect of tiredness and deterioration of attention and alertness. That means that taking it is a real trade-off: Are the symptoms it's helping with more troublesome than the side effects it produces? Everyone reacts differently, but for some people, it truly isn't worth it. For others, it's helpful despite the drawbacks.

Feeling "bored" on Risperdal is probably quite common.

It does that. Been on Risperdal Consta depot for 3 years, side effects are bad sometimes but yeah it does the job.

I don't remember being bored when I was on that several years ago, but it sure did make me sleepy.

By 'bored' do you really mean just 'bored'?

Or by 'bored' do you really mean 'depressed'?

The former. I'm not the latter.

If you really mean 'bored' but not 'depressed'-then-what does THAT mean?

Sounds like a good thing.

The pill did its job, and eliminated somekind of mental roadblock, and now you're ready to take on new challenges in your life-which is why your old comfort zone now 'bores' you.

Could that be whats happening?

Perhaps. I never seem to be an expert on medicines, however.

I myself have sampled a number of both over- and under- the counter substences in my time. And have had some crazy friends who have - sampled even more widely than I have- and I have had to listen to them describe the effects of their drug use.

And we all get to hear those disclaimers on TV commercials about how this stuff "can cause depression, psychosis, thoughts of suicide, the urge to engage in promiscuious sex, etc etc").

But ive never heard of a drug that makes a person 'bored'.
And in fact its even hard to imagine. So im curious as to what exactly you mean by 'feeling bored'.

Do you mean 'restless'. Do you mean 'stuff that normally engages me doesnt engage me". Youve elminated 'depressed'( many folks really mean 'depressed' when they say 'bored').
Does it mean you have the urge to do stuff that you never craved before (you used to play chess and now you wanna bundgee jump) or what?

I am saying that I can't seem to have as much fun as I did when I was off it.

You dont enjoy the stuff that you normally enjoy doing? That is what I take that to mean. It blunts the enjoyment sensations you get from doing - whatever your habits are.

Talk to your doctor about it. Sounds like it could get rather serious if it were a drug you're supposed to take all of the time.
