Like, for christmas, or your birthday, and you opened up the present and your face just fell in utter dispair?

Well, it was Christmas one year and I got a navy-blue T-shirt with a bandaged monkey on it holding a peice of dynamite in his hand, the shirt said "i'm a slow learner". This was apparently supposed to be funny, but i kinda misinterpreted the meaning... I feel bad about it now, but I thought it was a insult...

Now, even if I hate the girft, I fake happiness... so I don't upset the person giving it to me... even if I totally dispise the gift!

Any similar stories?

I hinted, begged, and outright demanded a pair of new roller skates with two sets of wheels (indoor and outdoor) ...

... and all I got was a pair of hamsters ... a breeding pair ... two vicious, stinking, biting, chewing, mutant rats that ate their first litter before I even knew they were expecting.

Can you say, "Bass bait"?

I wish I had.

I remember one of the few times I had an open meltdown in front of my family. One year we had gone into this bookstore in the mall, and there was this book that I impulsively wanted, but didn't really want all that badly.

So for my birthday, I don't even remember what I was asking for, but I made it extremely clear that this is what I wanted. So for weeks I am looking forward to getting this thing I wanted, and what I got was that book, that I had completely forgotten about. And I am trying to get my emotions under control and I have people saying vapid things like "it's the thought that counts."

It was a silly thing.

I've been the recipient of very strangely generic gifts.

For Christmas a few years ago my grand parents got me one of those Coin Sorter things. You know you dump change in and it sorts the quarters, dimes, nickels, or pennies into stacks and it came with the paper wrappers.

Also last year for my birthday I got an electric travel mug that keeps drinks warm by plugging into the cigarette lighter of your car. I've never even taken it out of the box. I mean really if I have coffee I mean to drink it and I usually finish it long before it gets cold. Plus my XM Radio uses the ciggy socket power.

Even if it was not quite what I expected, I don't remember ever getting a gift I hated.

My grandfather (who I suspect had AS) was obsessed with coins and was absolutely in love with them. I bought him an electric coin sorter one year for Christmas, and it was the perfect gift--one of his favourites and he used it daily! :D Of course, it is probably the type of gift you need to give to the correct type of person. Not everyone is in need of a coin sorter! lol

Well I had an idea that my step grandpa liked to buy things from those As Seen On TV types of catalogs.

The best one though didn't happen to me but was given to my Uncle from my Great Grandmother. He opened the box and there was month old bacon inside. lmao

Last Christmas at my dad's house:

My sister got a new CD.
My step-sister got her first iPod.
My step-brother got a new video game.
Me? I got a bed comforter. That was too small for my bed size. Thanks a lot, dad.

A coin sorter would be the perfect gift for a waiter or waitress if they don't have one, for tips. Of course you'd need to find out first if they have one, because nobody needs two.

Not exactly a holiday gift, but my husband somehow got the idea that I really liked Cherry Mash candy "bars" (more of a lump than a "bar," actually), when I really found them just barely edible, and if I were going to eat that many calories, almost anything else chocolate I'd have liked better. After he got me several of them at different times, I was really regretting being nice and acting appreciation, and trying to figure out how to tell him that I'd rather have some other kind of candy when he felt like surprising me. I don't know where he got the idea the first time -- they're not something I'd ever say I wanted. I don't remember what I came up with, if anything.

When I was a kid we all basically got standard Cherry Candies and I never really cared for combining Cherry and Chocalate.

Eventually when I started working at different places I'd take this ridiculous pile of Christmas chocolates that was pushed on me and leave them in the work place break room.

My grandparents bought me one of those for Christmas one year. I loved it. It was kind of opaque plastic so you could watch the mechanical sorting action.

The worst gift I ever got was a $50 gift certificate to Ticket Master. I think I would rather light myself on fire than go to a live concert. I think I still have it unused somewhere.

Well the thing is whenever I actually have that much change I just go to the self checkout in the store and dump in all the coins when I buy something.

Of course, but I cherished every gift I ever got because it meant someone took the time to think about me. Even if they had no idea what I would enjoy.

I don't hate my presents anymore but as a kid I have gotten stuff I didn't like. Like a same Kelly outfit I already had or an xbox game I already had on Gamecube and I have said I already have them. When I get things I didn't like, I would complain about it but now I don't anymore because I realize how rude it is.

I would feel too guilty if I didn't like my presents so I like them now. I also love it when I get gift receipts because it tells me I don't have to like the present.

I was once given a box of batteries with a label on that said "gift not included"
