I wish I did. The only times I've been on the special bus is when my friend (who has CP and uses a wheelchair) is taking me over to her place for a visit. It seems nicer than the regular bus - there's fewer people, the driver takes you directly where you want to go instead of having regular stops, and I much prefer the company of disabled people over non-disabled.

It's too bad there's such a stigma about it - I bet if I'd ridden the special ed bus to school as a kid I'd have been bullied about it. Then again, I was bullied anyway about everything else...

If I don't have to, I would not put my kid on a special ed bus. Figure that he will be picked on enough and doesn't need that extra crap. However, that being said, if you NEED it, then that's what it's there for.

No, I never went on that bus to school, but I know that a couple of people in the AS self-contained class did.

I never rode a school bus to begin with. I was either home-schooled or in small private schools. The only times I went to anything approaching a regular school, I never made it more than a year.

I did when I was little up till age eight. But I wanted to ride the big buses. Some of them are special ed buses too but the long ones are not but the medium ones are. Then I finally got to when I was eight after I was put in my new school in regular ed full time.

I was in walking distance to my elementary and junior high schools, so no bus. We don't have a high school, so I had to go to another city for that--and obviously took a bus. I hated being on the main bus--loud, crowded, and someone was always sitting in "my" seat... but in high school I did not know I was autistic, and didn't have a choice. I don't know if I would have went on the special ed bus anyway but I might have...

When I was a kid, the only thing I expected from others was niceness and tolerance. I didn't care what other kids looked like or if they were disabled. My mother did, but not me. This was when I was four or five years old.

After being in regular school I identified with the kids there and had a fear of disability or seeing myself as disabled in any way. I didn't want to be friends with the special ed kids, not that I had friends anyway. I was the most unfriended there.

I wonder if I were allowed on the special ed bus if I would have been picked on less and never developed any negative thoughts about myself and others with disabilities? When I was really young I knew a few disabled kids and got along well with them.

Not me but my daughter. Her AS doesn't present any issues that would prevent her from taking the regular school bus. In fact, she was extremely excited to ride the school bus when she started kindergarten.

When I was younger I rode my bike to school. I started riding the regular bus in high school and I hated it. Now I drive to school, which is a thousand times more pleasant. :)

I use to ride that bus sometimes too/. Not through my whole school life though. People made fun of it and called it a "tart kart" it was rather offensive!

Yes because the only driver for my route was an as*hole. The only way my parents could have me ride a diffrent bus was if I rode the "special" or "short" bus. I was legaly entitled to ride it because I was "disabled". I didn't ride it for very long becuase the other kids found out I was riding the "ret*d" bus and bullied me about it so I begged and begged my parents to let me ride the regualr bus again. Things didn't work out so well and the driver was still an as*hole but at least the kids could no longer tease me about riding the "ret*d bus".

I didn't, however, if I had gone to the other school the borough wanted me to go to, I would have.
