I was born by Caeserean Section. According to my mother, I was born during a thunder storm at a hospital that had no resident anaesthetist and had to get one from another hospital. It is this delay that is thought to be the cause of my AS; my mum says I was about two minutes away from severe autism and cerebal palsy.

This makes me wonder how many Aspies were born in this way and whether there is much correlation between Caesarean Birth and AS.

I've never heard about that. I was born by normal delivery myself, but it'll be interesting to see the poll after more people have voted.

I was born by C-section at 24 weeks gestation...not so unusual now, but 46 years ago 24-weekers did not often survive.

I answered for my son who was born by cesarean, a week past his due date, because he was breech.

He has autism, not AS.

Sorry for the narrow scope. People with other ASDs and parents with kids on the spectrum should feel free to post on this thread as well.

Normal, with complications.

My mom was in labor with me for three days and I wasn't coming out, so the doctors had to resort to doing a C-section.

Naturally, but I should have been born by CS, because I was too big (4,5kg/10lbs).

My son diagnosed with Asperger's and born by C-section because of inadequate dilation.

How would the delay cause autism? I voted for my son. He was a week overdue. At a prenatal checkup sometime after he had "dropped" the doctor stuck his hand up there and said " I've never seen this before, he's gone back up!"

My mum said something about me getting tangled up with the cord and suffocating myself. I don't really know about the medical details.

Normal. I think my mom said that I was easier than my older brother who was also normal since I was the second one and "the birth canal has already been stretched out".

I was born naturally and my mom had no painkillers. My sister, a month overdue, was also born naturally.
