Recently, this really weird thing has started to happen, whenever I am walking in a public place. My eyes sometimes start to feel sensitive like I am about to cry. I have noticed this as I run errands and i am walking down the isles at the supermarket, walking back from the store, and walking down the halls at school. I do not have this problem when I am at home. It might have to do with the fact that i try to stop stimming in public, but i stim all i want at home. or it might be too many people and socialization overwhelming me. i have no clue why i cry because i am not sad.

Maybe you have certain allergies like pollen that cause this, or maybe the air hitting your eyes im not sure, do you maybe get so caught up thinking about not stimming and all the people around you that you forget to blink?

Sometimes crying can be a response when you are stressed out or anxious. I've had that happen to me before. If I stay up too late, sometimes I will start to cry for no apparent reason. It's always very confusing, since I don't feel sad.

You mentioned that it is in relation to not stimming... why are you not allowed to do that in public? Are you anxious about how you others see you? If so, would it be possible for you to replace your stims with ones that are a bit less noticeable?

My take on this is the tears are your physical reaction to not stimming, since that causes some stress in your body. Hang in there! Probably this will go away if you stick it out. Btw, congrats on controlling the stimming!

If u r a Christian, I can share another idea about tears I was told by a priest once.....if u want to hear it.

It sounds like a response to something you are physically sensitive to. Could it be light? Have you tried wearing sunglasses? My eyes water when it's sunny. I also cry when I sing, and the song doesn't have to be an emotional one. I think with me, that might be due to sinus problems.

to echo syrella, I think anxiety could be a possible cause. I know for myself, out in public when I'm feeling anxious my eyes go really dry (I notice because it makes my contact lenses stick to my eyes more and I can't see properly)...so maybe you're eyes are reacting in a similar way (except too wet instead of dry)

My eyes get sensitive when I sing (I don't know why though). As for your sensitivity while you're walking, It might just be a reaction you body has to something.
