First day of EMT class, practiced getting people ready for transport, when it was my turn to be on the board all strapped down, neck brace on, head held tight by those padded straps it felt amazingly great. Really hated it all up to that, the touching, the kneeling on a hard floor etc, but WOW, I couldn't believe how comfy in a room packed with strangers most more than 30 years younger than me, how that felt so good.

I had heard about the restraint benefit for those on the spectrum, thought it sounded neat, but had no idea how great it could feel. Asked how much one of those things costs  I am sure the guy looking through the catalog for the prices thought I was strange (or kinky), and it's not like I could truss myself up like that. To be fair, I have been tied up before, but it wasn't tight, cozy, tucked in like this was.

I am off to search the net for solutions that will enable me to re-create that feeling here at home all by myself.

Any ideas?

Perhaps cocoon yourself in a weighted blanket. You can get weighted blankets from anywhere to 3 to 30 lbs, as far as I know, and they are usually custom made so you can pick the type of fabric.

This also reminds me of Temple Grandin's hug machine. I know she made one herself.

I too would recommend a weighted blanket. I also believe that in her book, or in other places online, you can find directions on how to make your own. It would certainly be cheaper than the stretcher components. A quick google search netted this website: http://hugmachine.org/

I wish I had a weighted blanket, that would be nice. What I do is get my quilt, lay on my bed on my right side and tuck the blanket under me, then roll over to my left side and tuck under that side. Then I roll on to my back and wiggle my arms under the blanket, and stretch against the blanket. It feels so good. :D One time when I was younger I went to this museum that had an exhibit on the different types of housing around the world and they had little houses you could go in and stuff, and one of them had a hammock. But it didn't have the bars at the ends like most do, so it was just like a little cocoon, that was possibly one of the best feelings ever, being wrapped up and suspended off the ground. I would like to do that again. Or some other pressure/restraint type thing.

I always like sleeping under 30 or so (no exaggeration here) blankets in the winter. Can't really do that this time of year though; it would get too hot. Blankets should really be made out of heavy, non-insulating materials.

Can't get into the idea of a blanket right now, when it get cold I will give it a try. I get too hot as it is, would kick it off, if it was too heavy to kick off, would just wake me and I have enough sleep issues. Going to try a tight unitard thing I found online with no sleaves, low cut, so not too too hot I hope. Thanks for the responses.

I can't recommend heavy blankets enough. I was currently sleeping under a half finished home made blanket someones mother had started to make and then discarded. He gave me the blanket. It was intended to be a quilt later on, and was quite heavy. I slept under it until it started to spit feathers out in large amounts. I am currently saving away paychecks to invest in a dreamcather weighted blanket. From what I've seen on their website, its a good way to go, despite the hefty price tag. I'm looking at a 23lb blanket that will for for 244 USD, and that's the pre-made ready to ship variety. With the custom blankets, I'm not sure what kind of price youd be looking at.

So, I am think what would feel best, without it being a big blanket. Had an eye thing once that was filled with barley hulls or something, am thinking a big zippered pillow cover, filling legs of pantyhose with the weighted whatever (barley hulls, dried beans???), putting the filled stockings in the zippered case, could lay the thing on my torso, wouldn't be as hot as a blanket because not completely covered.

Shoot, probably just another project I won't finish!! !!

Well, can't do a hammock unless I throw out my bed, and I am not doing that, and the idea of restraints without being all wrapped up completely covered sounds good. I would freak wrapped in a blanket cocoon if I woke up and couldn't get out of it quickly, what if there were a fire or other emergency? I live alone, don't even talk to the pain in the a$$ neighbors, I would just be stuck if there was some disaster and I couldn't get moving on my own quickly.

I suggest BDSM equipment.

 sorry, but I gotta admit, just the mental image of someone suspended in a hammock cocoon and flopping about is kinda funny, I'm LOL'ing.... but of course, it wouldn't be funny in real life - for the reasons you suggest. Although, any kind of restraint is gonna hafta have a quick release button on it

what do they weight them with? anybody know? because they sure are expensive, and I was wondering if they use buckwheat hulls or something.... that a person could make themself possibly. I have made a buckwheat hull pillow { it's crunchy sounding though... not so keen on that really} anyway... was wondering if anybody knows ?

One of the sites i looked at, you could choose from plastic pellets, or glass beads ($7.00 extra).

It's very important that you use a good material. I'm looking at Dream Catcher blankets because they use some kind of special plastic that can withstand temperatures at too 600F making them dryer safe, and the pellets inside wont absorb moisture like rocks or dried produce would. Eventually, that would mold up if you washed it. This is their website, if you want more info: http://www.weightedblanket.net/
