I was wondering if other aspies and you with HFA do this alot.

I know I do it quite alot. Supposedly the body language (for NTs) of crossing your arms (for males) are things like confidence and arrogance. I do it because it eases the uncomfort in social situations and because I don't usually like to be touched by other people, so it's sort of a way to comfort myself. I realize it still would be categorized as a defensive gesture, but I definitely wouldn't say I, personally, do at times that I'm feeling confident.

I used to do that. Then I saw pictures of myself crossing my arms and thought I looked weird.

I often either cross my arms, rest my hands on my hips or legs, or have them in my pockets. For me it's mainly that I don't like to have my hands just hanging, they have to be touching or holding something.

Ugh, yes. And when I'm aware of it it drives me nuts and I try to stop. Unfortunately then I probably end up seeming stranger still because then I don't know what to do with my arms at all.

I work as a bouncer alot. It's a good job for not having to be polite, and for a person who just stands there with his arms crossed alot; at least, as others see it as confidence, defensive, and arrogant... I guess?

I used to do it when I was younger. I'm thirty three now. I think I forced myself to stop at about... thirty. Wow, that is a hard one to stop, isn't it?

I constantly cross my arms and put my hands in my pockets. The reason is that I'm usually uncomfortable and I need to do something with my hands, but I know people will think I'm weird if they see that.

Maybe I should start crossing my arms. It might make me look less weird and more confident, which is a good thing.

I cross my arms. Then I uncross them and start fidgeting with my hands again. Then I cross my arms again. Then I uncross them and start fidgeting with my hands again. Repeat.

Yes, I do cross my arms a lot. But I think other people do, too?

I always thought crossing your arms was a defensive mechanism, while placing your hands on your hips showed confidence. Interesting.

Yes. Or I stick my hands in my pockets. I dunno what else to do with them. It bothers me. Feels awkward.

No.

I cross them behind my back though, whatever that's called.
