Do you think your social, developmental and academical skills would have improved if you were homeschooled ?
(of course presuming you had plenty of opportunities to socialize like boys scouts, clubs, sports, church , etc)

I would have loved to be homeschooled as a teen. I wish that my maum would have done that for me instead of forcing me to go to school every day as a teen. I hated walking into that building day after day, waiting for the summer to arrive.

No, I went to a small primary and secondary school and I had a friend and multiple friendly acquaintances. I thrived in the assignment based curriculum because I was allowed to pursue my own interests after doing the assignments individually in primary andto a degree in secondary school. I am sur that if I was homeschooled, I would have been far more socially isolated that I was in school.

This is such a subjective question. As you can see from the previous two responses, It all depends on the situation of the learning experience. If your mother was educated and also fit in a "playdate" or two a week with other peers, or developed a plan to expose you to socialization, it might be feasable. But unfortunate as it may be, we all have to learn to socialize. Not because we need to work with others, but because it is a basic human need. Most of us who have learned how to live independantly still have the need to find a mate or friends. To live as a hermit is transitory. Eventually, the need to share one's self always erupts. Usually when one develops an inner peace. Which is what we are all searching for.

Homeschooling may have been comforting in a home that understands you, but an environment with others is always added to the mix for your social development.

I was home-schooled for a semester in my youth: most boring period of my life.
Back then, I still didn't know how to make or maintain friendships outside of the classroom & school yard,
so when those were gone, my social life completely disappeared.
All those little things that didn't seem so important,
like words exchanged in the hallway and questions I asked in lecture,
I only realized how important they were to my sanity once they were gone.

The reading and assignment in the curriculum were fewer and easier than at the public schools,
so it was insufficient to challenge any part of my intellect or keep me engaged.

Based on my experience, I would have to warn against it.

No, I would have liked to have been homeschooled but I would have never of picked up the people skills to get by in life. As bad as my school experience was it would have been a bad thing to have taken me out of school. I would be more of freak than what I am now.

No.

But I would have preferred to be anywhere but home.

My family was not the stuff of "Father Knows Best", "The Cosby Show" or even "Rosanne".

More like "The Shining"

Uhh my parents homeschooling me is a pretty scary thought, as much as I hated public school I do not think homeschooling would have done a whole lot of good. though I would have liked to go to a bigger school so I would not have been noticed as much and so it might have been less obvious to me that I was the designated outcast. Also at a bigger school I could have maybe had more chances of finding friends.

YES!! !! !! !! !! However, I don't know whether that would have made me even more socially un-adapted.

I think my academic skills would have definitely been better.

I didn't learn social skilling at the schools I went to anyway. The only reason I wasn't homeschooled is I would have had to do it myself since no one was here during the day.

What I really wanted was to stay at home all day by myself so I wouldn't have to deal with hostile people.

That would have been school enough for me.

Absolutely. I'm incredibly jealous of people who got to be homeschooled - it would have been so much better for me. The fact that my parents didn't know how to teach me didn't matter, because my teachers didn't know how to teach me either. It would have only been better for me.

Defiantly, much of the anxiety I now live with is a side effect of bullying in school. Plus the forceful enviroment of school drove me into meltdown rather a lot.

For middle school, probably. Going to school during those two grades felt wrong, somehow.
Or maybe being 12-13 years old just felt wrong, period.
Maybe if that place were converted into elementary school along with the lower grades, things might have been easier.
