Does anyone else feel comforted by the sound of a clock ticking? I've been fascinated by the sound of clocks all my life. I find them relaxing.

Am I weird?

Yes... But my wife is kept awake by any wind-up clocks, so I don't have one in use.

For me, not so much.
I use my brain like an iPod or mp3 player—always some earworm playing in my mind.
A ticking clock would probably throw my tempo off if I was paying attention to that.

Yes, I find that comforting, also the sound of windshield wipers and the chugalug of the dishwasher or washing machine.

I'm not, but I can understand why you are. For me its too regular of a pattern and I hear it all and it keeps me awake and I can't stop hearing it.

I do not like the sound of a clock ticking. I like digits for time not hands on a clock. Allso i like 24 hour time not am or pm

I love hearing it and find it more difficult to drift off to sleep without the nice intricate little rhythms of a ticking clock - or better, two ticking clocks for that interesting synchronism drift and change in pattern.

I can't stand silence or light noises when I go to bed at night. That's what my fan is for, to create white noise to block out everything else.

But I do like to hear the tick-tocking if I'm relaxing or doing light office work.

I prefer vibrations. Like guitar strings or the hum of a fan.

Usually it just pisses me off.

I haven't been around a ticking clock in a long time, but there was a grandfather clock at my... grandfather's, and I remember liking that I could hear it in the distance when I woke up downstairs (on one of those pull-out beds from the couch). You could tell when the minute was up because it would make a louder tick. It was a bit too loud when you were in the same room with it, though.

Yes, the sound of clocks is very relaxing to me, as is the sound of a fan. In fact, I find I have difficulty falling asleep without my fan blowing.

I prefer the sound of a drum set in the background. That's why I have my music playing all day.

Nope, that's not weird. I find many different rhytmic (or repetitive) "background" sounds relaxing and comforting - ticking clocks, fans, crickets/frogs, air conditioning, etc.

Though, I also know a girl (definitely NT) who can't stand ticking clocks, so I suppose it's all a matter of personal preference :)

Personally I can't stand the noise of a ticking clock!
