HGN - "Follow my finger."

I have probably had more sobriety tests than anybody I know and passed every one of them. However I have frustrated more than one officer when they try and give me the HGN (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus) test. This is the test where you are instructed to hold your head still and follow a pen with your eyes. I am not totally sure what frustrates them, but I have a couple of possibilities:

1. I don't want to move my eyes too much once the pen gets off to the side, feeling more comfortable viewing it with my peripheral vision.
2. I want to look at the officers eyes to see how he is reacting when viewing my eyes.

Any thoughts out there?

I am very glad to have found this forum. I have that killer stareand all of my Googling keeps leading me to this site. The people on here best describe how others react to my stare. I have not been diagnosed with AS, but I plan on discussing it with my doctor the next time I visit him.

mmmmmm? cops don't do this here, they say "blow into this machine" and "why are you sleeping in your car?" but never follow my pen with your eyes...

How come you don't want to follow the pen with your eyes?

I thought this was gonna be about those NT as*holes who say, "Just look where I'm pointing!" when you can't see what they're trying to draw your attention to.
