Two things I feel might be unique to me alone. If anyone else is like this then speak up.

First I don't care about the order of tv, movies, books, stories, really anything. I can watch the 56th episode of a series even if I haven't seen the first episode. I am just fine with that.

Two I don't care about the content of something. I care more about watching video, reading books, listening to audio, and watching pictures. I enjoy watching an episode of spongbob as much as watching a football game.

I don't think there is really anything unique to anyone. Everyone is unique as they have unique combinations of things, but there are so many people in this world that individual quirks will be shared.

I don't have have those traits, but I have heard of them before.

I have watched TV series and didn't watch them in order. Like when I saw my first episode of Parenthood, it was not the pilot episode. It was the one where Max overhears his parents and he finds out he has Aspeger's and his parents act like it's the end of the world. Max seemed uninterested in his condition.

I have read Karen's School Bus from the Baby Sitters Little Sister series and it was the first series book from it I ever read. I have read the series out of order.

Dawn and the Impossible Three was the first Babysitters Club book I ever read despite that I had the first one. I have read the series out of order.

Only thing I will read in order is stories like if someone posts a story online, I am not going to start with chapter seven, instead I would want to read the whole thing starting with chapter one or prologue whichever is posted first.

It depends on the show. If it's a mini series, it's best to watch it from the beginning. But if it's any TV series, I don't need to watch it in order or else I'd never be watching any TV series on TV.

echo that. 7 billion humans presently, which is about 1/15th of the humans that have ever lived. Which in itself is an interesting topic. i found this website that looks pretty thoroughly into the factors http://www.prb.org/Articles/2002/HowMan ... Earth.aspx

of coarse your question would only be relevant to relatively recently when such a diversity of media is available. and furthermore WHERE this media is available, as it is not in developing countries that constitute the majority of the global population.
for the majority of our species existence your most closely analogous entertainment options are basically between staring at the fire, listening to stories from the shaman, and singing and dancing, which probably occurred in relative conjunction anyway.

tangents asside to more directly address your post, as far as reading, i have rarely read a book cover to cover. I do usually start at the beginning of a chapter where ever i chose to start up. However I read science books pretty exclusively, this same method would probably be very detrimental when reading a fictitious story, or even a history of sorts, where it is necessary to understand a plot which is presented in a chronological manner.

as far as being able to watch an episode out of order, i think most television shows, practically all to an extent, are in fact designed to be not crucially seen in order. An HBO series for example is in many cases designed that there is an ongoing story, parts of which you would not fully understand in their own right, but a single episode it usually made to present a section of the story that is for the most part entertaining on its own. If we are talking sitcoms and cartoons and such, these rarely are organized in any sort of chronological significance, and very loosely connected to the other episodes if at all.

I also have no trouble reading books out of order or mangas out of order. I don't understand people who are stringent in reading in order.

Maybe because they think they be confused about what is going on in that book because they didn't know of the previous facts from the previous books. It be like opening a book and skipping to chapter seven and start reading. You will be confused and not know what is going on and you be wondering stuff like why did this happen, why are these two characters not talking. So it's best to start from the beginning.

I was reading several stories on another forum but I had no clue they were all spin offs or sequels or prequels. So when I reading of the stories, i was a little confused because i wondered how old the characters were and what the backgrounds were on the characters and why wasn't this character at day care and how did they meet. but I found out there was another story about that character so i decided to read it and i got my answers. Then I was reading another story and it was confusing in the middle because I didn't know what was going on with this other character and why was this character doing an action so I asked about it and the author told me I had to read the other story he wrote so I read that and got my answer. So that is an example of why people prefer to read books in order. Sometimes stories leave off from the last story so it's best to read the first one because the authors are not going to explain again in the next story about the character backgrounds.

Luckily in the babysitter clubs books, it was always explained how the club formed and how they met and in the little sister books, it explains how Karen got two families but I got so sick of reading those because I knew how she got two families, I knew how the club got formed and how Kristy was all of a sudden living in a mansion so I used to skip that chapter in the books. but I figured it was for readers who haven't read any of the other books yet or don't read in order. Now online when people write, they don't bother repeating themselves and they would tell you what story to read if you want your answer to something because they don't want to use their time to repeat themselves when they wish to write series or spin offs or sequels.

Yeah, I read story because I absolutely adore reading and so I will read any of a series. I will do that with movies and tv shows also. Also I don't need to start at the beginning of a book to enjoy it immensely.

Well, I like to know what the bluddy heck is going on with a story so I'll start from the beginning. Sometimes I'll say get into a series from the 5th season but then go back to season 1 so I know what's going on. It's more about getting all the details with me and having order is the only way I my day can be productive, otherwise I'll just sit on my computer all day.

But when I read and watch things I study the structure, the direction, what the author/writer is trying to get across. I need to know everything so it's better if I start from the beginning. I want to be an author myself so I need to know what the structure of a story is like. I now kind of enjoy studying how other writer's do it.

Is it usually hard for people to not be able to read and listen to music at the same time?
