I have a terrible problem with quickly forgetting things. If something makes it past my shortterm memory it's usually stuck and you can ask me about the conversation a year later and I can give it to you verbatum with a few cues, but the problem is a lot of stuff doesn't even make it past my short term memory. I actually think of things that I want to post, someone says something to me, and... poof! it's gone. It drives me crazy and I was wondering if anyone has the same problem and has any ideas about what can be done to correct it. I understand that it is very common for us.

Well, that happens to me too, but I have the general impression that it's pretty normal, that NTs do it a lot also. But I might be wrong, since I've been Aspie all my life, just didn't know it.

I heard that this is one reason ADHD people tend to interrupt a lot. I can resonate with that, because often I'll interrupt a conversation simply because if I wait I won't remember what I was going to say.

Same with me. I can quote dialogue to you from a book I read six months ago, but in a casual conversation, I can forget what was said five seconds ago.

I have memory problems too. My working and short-term memory sucks: I can't hold more than one thing in mind, and I forget things very quickly.

My problem lies not so much in remembering things, but in remembering to remember things. I keep a number of things around me which help me to remember: if they're in front of my computer or my clock, I know that I have to remember something, and I usually quickly do.

I have the same problem. I will be talking about one thing, and a minute later, I will not even know what I have said. That, and trying to cross the street. Normals don't know, but crossing a street is hard. There is a lot of things that you have to think about: which way is the car coming from, how far is it away from you, can I cross the street fast enough before the car comes...and if you have multiple lanes of traffic...whew!

Have this a lot too... I sometimes ask things and a second after I got the answer, I forgot the answer, resulting in me asking it multiple times an hour... *sigh*

It make NT's, so mad too. They tell me something and as soon as they finish talking. I say what did you say or I say okay turn around and forget what they just told me to do. Then, instead of manning up and telling them I look around and try to find cues to make me remember. List are the best way that I've found to keep track, but then I have to remember the list.

I have the short term memory of a goldfish, and the long term memory of an elephant.
