I have good hearing however I can't understand spoken language all the time. I hear the words but when I try to make sense of it I loose something. It's like listening to a foreign language.

I have that happen to me too all the time especially when there is a lot of noise and I have to ask people to repeat things-it sounds like mumbling.

Ive often wondered if I mumble because it's how I've heard people my entire life.

This happens alot to me too... some days worse then others. I have pretty good hearing but friends and family joke and call me deaf alot of the time because I'm always saying "what?" and asking them to repeat it. Alot of the time I do well when it's just their voice I can hear but when there other noises interfering... I'm screwed haha. I believe it's an auditory processing issue though, you can hear them but it takes a little bit longer for your brain to process the language.. especially when there are other noises it's hard to focus on what you want to or NEED to hear clearly.

CAPD. One of the more common Asperger's traits.

It seems a new topic about this gets started each week.

This has been happening to me lately, it's frustrating. I'm not sure whether it's APD or just bad hearing, since I've had hearing troubles since childhood... time to book an appointment with the audiologist I guess.

I think my 4 yo son has the same issue. He has good hearing but he didn't understand what I said until 6 months ago. I did plenty of speech therapy with him and he's improving, now he can understand one verb sentences.
I think that it was the reason of his speech delay, in fact he can pronounce words, he just didn't know how to use them.
I have to thank WP because I couldn't figure out that a disorder like this could exist.

I've only noticed it a couple of times recently during 1 on 1 conversations. This is not good.

My biggest problem is missing the first two words of a sentence.
This always happens to me at the beginning of a conversation when my brain is still in "standbye" mode.

I sometimes misunderstand people, too.
However, in my case, it might be just some hearing loss. I believe I've lost a bit of it over time.... :?
