I have never officially been diagnosed with ADD, but I am sure I have it as I fit the definition of someone with ADD and I will have an evaluation done for it at the end of this month. A long time ago I was with a friend of mine who had been prescribed Adderall for this ADHD and he told me that when he takes it, he feels a lot more social and confident. I was tired of being so quiet and anti-social so I tried a few pills(not all at once) and he was right. The Adderall made me feel a lot more social and confident with talking to people and I was just more confident in general. I noticed that I was a lot happier too as a result. I wasn't "high" at all. It was almost like some sort of temporary awakening in my brain that went away as soon as the medication wore off. I don't want anyone to think that I intend to abuse Adderall or any other medication. I am just wondering why this helped me out so much? Could I just have a chemical imbalance in my brain? I have started seeing a psychologist recently, but I will also be going to some free clinics I found where I can meet other professionals with evaluate me to find out if I have AS and ADD. I just worry about taking Adderall being a bad idea if I am diagnosed with AS...although I could have ADD as well? Is there anyone else on here with AS/ADD/PDD, etc. that has benefited from Adderrall?

Ask your psychologist. They ought to know what's up.

I know that depression involves a chemical imbalance in the brain. Haven't got a clue what Adderall is but it sounds possible that it's shifting some balance in your brain. On the other hand it might just be a placebo effect or something. Who knows?

Seriously, talk to a psychologist. Even if they disapprove they can't do anything to stop you.

Adderall is often VERY beneficial to the population who has AS/ADD/PDD. My son has that exact diagnosis, and he did well on Adderall -- the only problem he has is that his positive response to Adderall also came with some very negative tics. I do, however, read that Adderall helps a lot of other people with a combination of Asperger's and ADD, so I think that if it helps you to socialize (with the added benefit of focusing better on your work or school) then by all means, talk to your doctor about getting some.

Adderall is just amphetamine, which has been a popular illegal recreational drug for decades.

Increased alertness, concentration, energy, self-confidence, sociability are all typical effects for everyone.

Whether amphetamine is a safe and effective treatment for ADD is questionable.
